Hotels in St Germain Paris

Hotels in St Germain Paris
I am going to Paris for the first time and am torn between a few hotels...has anyone stayed at any of these three hotels: Hotel des marronniers or Hotel du Pantheon or Hotel de l'Abbaye ? but want Paris sophistication without being too fancy and at a reasonable rate. Thank you!

Have not stayed at these three, but do want to point out that Hotel du Pantheon is not really in Saint Germain des Prés (though it is an easy walk to it).
Both of the others are in great locations.

Paris sophistication can be found in many other areas without feeling as though you are slumming it.
European tourists rarely stay in the Saint Germain des Prés area for example -- they stay in the 9th and 10th arrondissements, and they find their stay generally quite sophisticated.

I have stayed at the Marronniers several times and love the location and charm of the hotel. Just so you're aware
ome of the rooms are small, and some bathrooms are miniscule! That said, I love being on the rue Jacob, and the hotel being set off the street in a courtyard assures quiet.

We returned from that area ten days ago (stayed on Rue de Buci in a flat). We noticed what looked like a lovely hotel, Best Western St Germain, around the corner in a great location (if you like that busy but fun part of the 6th arrondissement).
It gets good reviews on TA and the price is more reasonable than other places we checked (for a future visit) Note that i have not stayed there

Another Rue JAcob fan here. I've stayed at the des Marroniers, the Danube, D'Angleterre and the Millesime and the deux continents and would recommend any one of them.I rent apartments now but always stop in at the Danube to say hello to old friends.Lots of good cafes and bistros in the area and good transportation

I do love the 6th; I don't know the hotels you are asking about but you will enjoy the area (but you will never catch kerouac in the 6th 
.
I have stayed at Hotel le Fleurie and Hotel Louis II in the 6th and can recommend them both. Clean, well located, good experiences at both

hi denisea .. i am really torn now. am between hotel de l'abbaye, hotel le fleurie and hotel dauphine. not sure how to choose.....? hotel le fleurie seems charming with a hint of sophistication. is it really clean?

yes, it is very clean and the street it is located on is a little quieter than many in the area
have you checked on www.tripadvisor.com for recent reviews? they can be helpful
it seems like I have seen many positive posted here regarding hotel de l'abbaye...have you read through Guenmai's thread on left bank hotels? it might also have some good info on the properties you are interested in
you can't really go too wrong...it's Paris!

As for location, the Hotel Dauphine is north of Blvd. St.Germain. It's about 2 blocks north of Blvd. St.Germain.This is my regular neighborhood. It's very central.
The Hotel le Fleurie is on the rue Gregoire des Tours and just a block south of Blvd. St.Germain. It's about a 7-minute walk from the Hotel Dauphine.
The Abbaye is in the south part of the 6th,near Luxembourg Gardens which are very nice to walk through and sit in.
It just all depends on what location you prefer and what hotel you prefer. I'm one who chooses location over hotel or apartment. Other people have different preferences. Happy Travels!

In Paris, we always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 130E dbl + bkfst. It is just around the corner from Place St. Sulpice, near 3 metro stops and 4 bus routes. Has AC and an elevator.
The staff speaks English well, and is very helpful. The front desk is staffed 24/7
They can arrange a shuttle pickup to/from CDG for you.

Hi - based on the three you have narrowed to - hotel de l'abbaye, hotel le fleurie and hotel dauphine - I'm sure you would be happy in any of them. If it helps, I have stayed in Hotel de l'abbaye and I thought the hotel was nice, common areas very charming, but in my opinion, I did not like the overall location of the hotel as well as your other locations. I have not stayed at either of the other hotels you listed but I have stayed at Hotel D'aubusson and Relais Christine which are both within 1 block of Hotel Dauphine (I've walked by Hotel Dauphine a hundred times!).
Many people love the location of Hotel de l'abbaye and when I complain, keep in mind it is still an 7 out of 10 location wise within the 6th for me. However, I felt that the few surrounding streets were a bit non-descript for my personal taste and slightly further from key metro lines that I take and shops/restaurants that I like. I prefer to stay on the river side of B Saint-Germain from a liveliness, proximity to preferred metro lines, and restaurants perspective. Mostly now I stay in apartments around that area (or in the Marais if I want a more peaceful setting) but for a first visit to Paris, if it was me, I would choose to be on Rue Dauphine which is in the heart of the action and close to the river as well as very close to two key metro lines that you will probably be taking to get to main sights. Plus, within 3 minutes walk from your hotel, you will see the river at night and Notre Dame lit up. I never get tired of that!

NorCal_Jo: I'm the same as I also like to be in the liveliness of the area. I would therefore personally go for either the Hotel Dauphine or the Hotel le Fleurie. But, to each his own. Happy Travels!

My sister loved staying at Abbaye. She stayed in the Duc de Crillon Suite at the Hotel Crillon for her honeymoon, so is used to opulence.
Abbaye is NOT the Hotel de Crillon, but it is a very nice boutique hotel that is certainly acceptable to people who live their lives on a world stage.
