Hotels in Spain

Looking for great places to stay in Segovia, Toledo, Merida, Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada. Any help or books to reference would be helpful.
Books: Frommers' has a good book and good references on hotels in Spain. Also check out Rick Steves (if you are on a budget)Spain and Portual book. The Eyewitness Guide to Spain, Fodors has a book on "charming hotels in Spain". And finally, Karen Brown's books.

Her web site: http://www.karenbrown.com

I am going to Spain to visit all the cities you mentioned next Friday. Hotelsearch.com was extremely useful. Books I would recommend are Fodors and Special Places To Stay In Spain (I'm not sure if this title is exact). I mainly relied on hotelsearch.com as this website gives you great photos of the hotels, rooms, etc. as well as the opportunity to make your reservation via e-mail.

Just returned from the cities you listed 3 days ago. I would strongly recommend the following:
Toledo - Pintor El Greco; very large rooms, bathrooms, friendly staff, great breakfast included. About 13,000 pesatas.
Cordoba - Amistad Cordoba; the best hotel by far - gorgeous marbles bathrooms, bedrooms, very large, great breakfast. About 9,500 pesatas.

I would not recommend staying at the Dona Maria in Seville. Rooms were very small, expensive (18,500 pesatas), no ice, dirty rooms, etc. Not a good experience.

Enjoy your stay!

Lyn,

My husband and I stayed at a hotel in Granada called the Inglaterra. I found it in Fodor's Affordable Europe. We were quite leery because the description said, "For those who prefer old world charm to creature comforts" What a surprise we got! Apparently it had just been painted-real pretty pastel colors. I don't know what creature comforts they thought were missing-it was the best room we had in all of Spain. It had 2 telephones, hairdryer, T.V, balcony, private bathroom....and it was located VERY close to the cathedral. I can't remember the rate, but it was somewhere around $60US. Breakfast was extra. Definitely a great hotel. If you want me to check exactly how much it was or would like the address/phone number send me a message.

Krista

Lyn,

I stayed at Hotel Murillo in Sevilla and recommned it. Great location, reasonable price, and great service. A plus was that someone working always spoke English and they were very accomodating in helping us make arrangements for our next stopes.

In Granada, we also had a fabulous hotel - that was very very inexpensive, had great food, and the best service of any place we stayed at in Spain. I'm searching for the name and will post again when I find it.

Lyn. I was in Merida March 1997 and stayed at the Nova Roma. It is within walking distance of most of the attractions, except possibly the Acqueduct, and is a good hotel but is not high on "charm" If you are touring, Trujillo, the town to the north has not changed much in the last 100 years and is charming. Also the resturant,la Troya there is famous for copious quaqntities of good food...LD

In Segovia I can strongly recommend you a nice hostal. It is called Don Jaime and it is one block up from the Acueduct. It is a very nice place and you have a very nice view from the window. I think it is really cheap too. If you call for the phone informations number (003) in Spain they will help you with the number.
