hotels in siena
 

Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels? Any comments? Am able to get a great rate, but don't want to stay if it's a dive. <BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Monica<BR><BR>Hotel Executive<BR>Palazzo dei Priori

They are both outside of the old city walls. The Priori is near the highway although noise is not a problem. Executive is near the hospital. Both are new construction so you wont find that wonderful old charm but they are nice enough (think of a nice Holiday Inn)

They would have to be 1 or 2 start places if that is okay? The Tre Donzelle is wonderful for the price (last time, 4 years ago, it was $65 for a double without a bathroom). There is also a convent that is very good and cheap. It is called Alma Domus. Hope this helps.

I realize this is an old posting but has anyone stayed at or know anything about the 2 hotels mentioned in the initial post? They appear to be modern and nice but are there to far away from the city center to walk to?

As I replied, they are outside of the city and you would need to drive, cab or bus it. The Priori is right at the freeway onramp, the exacutive near the very busy main hospital. If I had to be near someone who was in hospital then I would stay at the executive but not if I had other choices. Why come to Siena and not be in the city? If you want to beoutside of the city then there are many nicer places than these. They are both new (one opened last year and the other 10 or so years ago and they are really like Holiday Inn type places. No charm.

Will be in town 2 nights for the Palio and these were two hotels with availability that were not 250+ euros a night.

Albergo Bernini...do a web search..they have a site. It is a small place near St. Catherines. Inside the walls...but close to an exit so it is easy to get luggage there. It is in a family's house. Clean basic rooms...nice people and a lovely terrace where they give you breakfast...and it is reasonable. We will return. We had a room with a private bath...Maggie

We stayed at the Palazzo dei Priori last year, mainly because we couldn't fid a room anywhere else. It was a very comfortable, American style hotel. However, it was a real hassle getting into and out of the old city, and we really got lost on the bus coming back. If I were to go back, I would definitely find a place in the old city.

If you are coming for the Palio you want to be in town not out. Try to find another place, Villa Liberty or Tre Donzelle or spend the extra. It is worth it.

thanks again. I appreciate your help and patience. every hotel description I read in siena says that X hotel is in the &quot;center of Siena&quot; or &quot;just meters&quot; away but half of those hotels are actually far out.

Is the San Francesco inside the walls? It says it is right by Basilica San Francesco.
