Hotels in Salamanca?
We will be staying in Salamanca for several days this November. I would welcome recommendations for reasonably priced hotels in a good location (and restaurants, if you have some to suggest). Thanks to all.

"reasonably priced hotels in a good location" Okay, but do you have a budget in mind?
|
26 years ago we stayed on the Plaza Mayor. We did not get much sleep because the cafés are noisy late into the night, and the delivery trucks start very early in the morning. On the other hand, if the room has AC (ours did not), it would mitigate outside noise.
|
"26 years ago" the world was a different place, as was Salamanca.
You can start your search with the Grand Hotel Don Gregorio, a 15th-Century palace only a few steps from the Plaza Mayor. For something a little less expensive, you can try the Hotel Casino Del Tormes, in the historic center of the city. And for something really cheap, there is Pensión San José, 300 meters from Plaza Mayor. |
That's why I mentioned AC, because I suspect that the noise factor is the same.

I'm staying at the NH Hotel de la Catedral in late September.
|
I love the other NH hotel, Palacio de Castellanos!
|
Thanks for everyone's replies. As for a budget, I would prefer to keep it under €100 per night. The NH Puerta de la Catedral looks pretty good -- I'll be interested in hearing your reaction once you've been there, Joannyc. So does the Palacio de Castellanos from its website. I've seen some others on TripAdvisor but haven't finished checking them out. I welcome other responses! Thanks.

So any more advice? We'll be in Salamanca in late Nov. Still considering the two NH hotels, and also the Microtel Placentinos.
|
I loved Salamanca, and hope you do, too!
I haven't been there since 2004, so my info is seriously out-of-date. I stayed at the Hotel Rector, which still gets great reviews. When I stayed there, a single was surprisingly affordable. I haven't checked current rates. Enjoy! |
I stayed at the NH Catedral.
Pros: Good location, maybe a 10 minute walk to Plaza Mayor Cons: Black throws on bed are disgustingly dirty (they should just get rid of them all together!), Wooden step stools (don't know what to call them since they are a couple feet long and about a foot high) located under bathroom sink are very dusty (I pulled one out to use as a luggage rack since no rack was available), One front desk person could not tell me what bus to catch to the train station (I'd think all personnel would be versed in basic transportation info or at least have it on a printed sheet for reference, I received my needed info from the staff at another hotel)., While most of the hotel looked very clean other than what I've already noted the areas around the elevator buttons (calling side in hall, not inside the elevator) really needed dusting... dirt, dust, etc., I came back early one evening and requested a bucket or bag of ice for my room and was told 'No' . Huh??? Explained that I had previously requested and received such. She thought I was walking in as a non-guest requesjting |
Sorry.... Somehow hit the wrong key before finished.
NH person thought I was requesting ice as a non-guest. Granted request but when looking for bag, couldn't 'find' them.... I had to tell her where they were! |
Thanks, Joannyc. I'm thinking the Microtel Placentinos may be a better bet. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Salamanca. We're looking forward to it.

I enjoyed Salamance very, very much! Have a great trip!

hi Frank - last fall I stayed at a wonderful apartment in Salamanca. The agency is "Luxury Salamanca." We paid way less than 100 euros a night - it was more like 70 euros. Our apartment was about a 15 minute walk from the center, but we didn't mind that. Here is the link to the agency -
http://luxurysalamanca.com/ As far as hotels in the center, you might check out the "Roommate" chain. Their hotel in Salamanca could not be more central, and though I have not stayed at that one I have stayed at the one in Oviedo and seen them elsewhere and they are pretty nice for those on a budget. http://www.room-matehotels.com/ Consider the apartment though. It was really nice. Here is my review on slowtrav: http://www.slowtrav.com/spain/vr/review.asp?n=5230 Hope this helps. |
