hotels in rome June w/ 6 & 8 yr old
 

We will be flying in to rome staying for 3 nights driving to tuscuany for a week and driving to venice for 2 nights. We need help with family friendly hotels, b & b's in rome and venice.
I am open to suggestions on places to rent villas in tuscuny.

My girls are very good travelers. we would like to spend $200 us per night in rome. any ideas?

What a wonderful trip for you and your girls! I don't have any specific recommendations, but...

With 3 nights and 2 small children, you might consider an apartment rather than a hotel/b&b. This would allow more space for relaxing. Also, you can make your own meals when you don't want to go out. Dinner out will usually begin around 7:30 at the earliest, which may be too late for the kids after a day of walking around Rome.

Is there an area in Tuscany that you are considering as a base? Any particular places/activities you want to experience while there? Tuscany is a large area- it's best to narrow down your location before searching for a place to stay. If you can decide your base area first, you can probably find some villa/agriturismo suggestions from people on this forum.

Yes, Zerlina, considering all the Rome room inquiries that magic_simon has responded to I also think ROMAN_SIMON is ADVERTISING his own B&B which is AGAINST Fodor's rules. I would NOT want to do business with a business or person that cannot respect other company's rules and regulations as it tells me that they are untrustworthy.

I would definitely rent an apartment in Rome so you would have some space to spread out and relax in, keep some cold beverages or even have breakfast if you want. My husband and I have been doing this for quite some time. Where you stay in Rome is as important as the actual hotel, b&b etc. I would recommend the historic center as compared to the wide big avenues of traffic in some other areas. You can walk to just about everything and buses are easy to use.

Sleep in Italy has a wide variety of apartments at many price levels and 3 day rentals are not unusual. From experience I can tell you that the apartment they rent named St. Andrea in Piazza Paradiso is great and would be good for a family if you do not mind going upstairs for the sleeping areas. A Canadian woman owns the apartment and will meet you to get you settled in and she and her husband live in the same building.

Sleep in Italy is a very reputable company that has been in business for some time.

Look at Palazzo Olivia near Piazza Navona--nice apts. in perfect location.

I agree about using an apartment w/ kids - I've been doing the same for a dozen years and have never looked back at hotels.

Location is good. Nothing unique about this apartment - there are many available. I found that www.slowtrav.com was a great resource for finding apartment/villas, as are specific recommendations here on Fodors.

In Tuscany we stayed at this location, Le Manzinaie, about 15min outside Montepulciano. It's not a villa, but rather an apartment (1 of 6) in an old farmhouse (podere in Italian).

We liked the location, and the owners are super friendly.

The pool was nice, but that was in early July when the air temp was 104 degrees - the pool was cool even then but great to have for hanging out. We basically had the property to ourselves. It's not the most convenient location for daily touring of southern Tuscany, but it was perfect for us. We basically used it as a vacation from our longer 1mo vacation in Italy. The owners host a dinner for their guests one night a week.
