Hotels in Rome
 

Hello All, I'm deciding between these 2 hotels, 1) Hotel Gambrinus, and 2) Hotel Ripa. This is our first trip to Rome, we will be doing sightseeing most of the time, and dinners, maybe some drinking at nights too. We are in our late 20s.

What is the your priority for selection criteria; location? price? hotel size? room ammenities? reviews? Rank these and assign a value to each hotel.

What time of year will you be travelling?

This place has been oft-referenced on this board. It's a budget place, but sounds like it's very clean and it is definitely very centrally located.

It's highly unlikely that anyone on this board has stayed in both hotels, or even one of these hotels.

If you are in your 20's and would like to visit some bars in the evening then I would look at the Pantheon area, it is my favourite area of Rome.

There are a range of very reasonably priced restaurants, cafes and bars in the area, it is also a fun, lively area within very easy walking distance to all the major sites which means you save on transportation costs.

The B&B is on Via delle Coppelle right near the Pantheon. It is a lovely B&B which has 3 rooms available all with air-conditioning and private bathroom. Breakfast is 'to die for' and is served to your room at a time of your choice.

Here is what my son and I were offered each day for breakfast:

Italian espresso or regular coffee or cappuccino or tea, orange juice, cookies, toasts, jam, butter, yoghurt, cereals, muesli/granola, milk, fresh fruits or fruit salad and also Parma ham and cheese, Bacon & Eggs!

I cant speak highly enough about this accommodation and I look forward to returning in March.

As an ex-Qantas Flight Attendant I have travelled extensively and stayed in many thousands of accommodation places, but, as far as I am concerned it is the B&B's (particularly in Europe) that represent much better value for money.

This means that by staying in a B&B you can afford to stay in a much more central, sought-after location i.e. hotels in these great locations will be far more expensive meaning the traveller has to look in less central locations to save money!!

The owners are happy for me to pass this code on to anyone who would like to take advantage of it - so I post it here regularly for the use of all my Fodorite friends!

The owners will also issue you with your own discount code (if you book with them) - this means you can use the 2 different discounts on the one booking - they allow that, which is a great saving, a small saving, but a saving nonetheless!!!

So, my advice would be to also look into the possibilty of B&B's - the one I have mentioned is truly exceptional.
