Hotels in Rome

I am traveling to Rome in May, spending about 5 nights. I am looking at hotel prices and can't find anything under $200 - does anyone know of any hidden gems out there? Rome hotels seem to be the most outrageously priced in all of Europe! I am not looking for anything fancy, a double room with a private bathroom.

Check out www.venere.com and you can likely find some under $200. Here's a 4% discount code BENVDQG.
I booked a 2* in March near the Pantheon for just over $100E a night.

I absolutely loved the Hotel Modigliani, on a quiet street near the Spanish Steps. It was about 150€ a night and I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

Canali ai Coronari is just off Piazza Navona so the location is wonderful. There double room rates are 145 to 210 euros.

We paid 119 euro/night for a spotless double at the Arco del Lauro in Trastevere, October 2006; includes breakfast. Loved it. I posted a review in Trip Advisor.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Villa San Pio. It's in a quiet area of Rome and the rooms are large and beautiful.

Lucie--Is a double at Arco a double bed or two single beds put together? Do you recall?

acloonan:

A very, very enthusisastic thumbs up for the Hotel Modigliani menioned by StCirq above.

This a delightful. small establishment on a quiet street (Purificacion) just a block from Via Veneto and short distance to Spanish Steps and Piazza Barberini. I have recommened this to many folks herein...we had a room (fairly good sized) overlooking the courtyard garden. My daughter and her family, along with two other families have booked it for end of March. I think we paid about 180E's two years ago. A fine breakfast buffet.

Hello Stu, that is a lovely hotel! Their website is also. And I note they are able to accomodate family's plus they have a parking lot available.

Hi LoveItaly:

I don't recall anything about a parking lot as we did not rent a car until after leaving Rome. I would wonder where that lot is, as the little street is jampacked with buildings. Maybe they have part of one a few blocks away, but I don't remember anyone driving up with a car. Still, a great FIND in Rome..we would go back without hesitation.

Hope things are good with you up north!
