Hotels in Rome
 

I will be in Rome for 4 days (9/11-9/14)and just wondering if I should make hotel/B&B reservation in advance. I looked up expedia and couple other websites and found the prices fairly reasonable. I also feel that I shouldn't have any problems finding rooms once I get there. Any advice? I would like to spend no more than 100 euros. Thanks

Just my opinion, but I think it's a lousy idea to "wing it" when arriving in a large city in Europe (unless you're a backpacker). September is still high season in Rome. Do you want to spend several hours checking out hotels? Also, 100 Euro isn't a lot in Rome. What kind of hotel are you looking for?

If you want to enjoy yourself, the location of the hotel is very important. Have you been to Rome before?? I suggest you do a search here on Fodors for Rome hotels and you'll get lots of great info and recommendations.

I don't know what kind of hotels Expedia is showing but, as mentioned, Sept. is high seasons and the best hotels have been booked for 6 months or more. What's left are less desirable proerties or places in the boonies.

Hi prettymin :) i agree with sssteve i wouldn't "wing" it in Rome ! i went to Rome and didn't pay a fortune for my stay ;) i found the Termini area cheaper than most and it's ideal for public transport and walking to most of the major sites i.e the Colosseum is about 15 mins walk... Longer if like us you get "waylaid" by the churches and buildings along the way :)we were worried about the area as it's often described as "unsavoury" but we had no problems with it ..and it suited our price range ;) Hope this helps

You might also use the website www.venere.com - it has reviews and a map to help you pick what part of the city would be convenient for you. I would also advise you to go ahead and book something so you don't have to use your time in Rome to find a place to stay.
