Hotels in Rome

I would like a hotel near the Vatican. How much should I expect to pay for a standard double room. I found hotels in Paris and London that were very reasonable, but I'm not having much luck with finding something reasonably priced in Rome. Can anyone offer any tips.

Thanks

Have you tried venere.com? Usually hotels in the Vatican area are cheaper than in the Piazza Navona or Spanish Steps.

No I haven't, but I will. Hopefully I'll find a great deal.

Thanks

Hi,

I have a question about venere.com. Is it like expedia where my visa will be billed now? Or is venere simply a booking agent, and my credit card will be billed upon checkout?

Billed on checkout, unless something has changed. See also their sister website www.eurocheapo.com

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi K,

I've been using Venere.com a lot for my Sept 2005 trip. I have found that most properties will come back saying "not available", so I contact them directly and can get my reservation that way. I think Venere.com is not set up to take reservations far in advance.

Here's another good site: italyby.com

By the way, I got a single room at Hotel Giardino Roma for 90E /night with breakfast. Sept rates.
Buon viaggio!

There are hotels in all budgets near the Vatican.

I stayed at Hotel Visconti Palace which is not right next to the Vatican but located within 15 minutes walk. The hotel was on the other side of the Castel Sant Angelo near to Via Cola di Rienzo. Via Cola di Rienzo is where that gourmet food store, Castroni, is located.

Anyway, the hotel is nicely positioned closely also to Piazza del Poppolo and Piazza Navona.

I had a great stay, staff is not warm friendly but reserved yet helpful. Don't use Carrani Tours as they recommend; not a good tour company in my opinion.

We have stayed at the Hotel Alimandi in Rome during our last 2 visits. It is a block down the stairs from the Vatican Museums. Big rooms, huge breakfast, friendly staff and shuttle service to and from airport. I think a double room with a big marble bathroom was about 150dollars (breakfast included).
