Hotels in Rome
 

Can someone share with me a boutique style hotel in Rome that serves breakfast, has a good view of the City and is 200 euros or less?

Given I haven't been there, take my suggestion with the required grains of salt. In any event, the Hotel Teatro Pace has been mentioned on other threads, and it seems it might fit your requirements if you are able to get a good rate from a discount web site like www.ratestogo.com . The normal rates would be way over your budget most likely.

Teatro Pace quoted me 120 Euro per night for late January. We will not be stating there as the stairs are a problem for my partner, and there is no lift. But their response was prompt and cordial.

Many hotels in Rome have roof gardens, even the upscale B&Bs. www.romeby.com has great info with lots of photos and then you can shop price.

I also www.ratestogo.com but remember it only lets you book 20 days out. I used them last month and got a great deal on a wonderful hotel in Rapallo. Saved 65 Euro per night over the hotel direct which was already less than the booking sites.

Also, I jsut got an unbelievable rate for January at the very highly rated and expensive Cap D'Africa hotel thru Travelocity: 157 USD per night. Every otehr site I looked at was 270E per night and more. They have great views of the Colosseum and it would qualify as a boutique hotel.

It pays to shop around.

We stayed at Hotel Viminale (***). Current rates: 135-185 euro (depending on season) per night for two,
breakfast included. Rooms are standard size (for a 3 star hotel, smallish by
American standards), and include all amenities: in-room bath/shower, AC, hair
dryer, safe, fridge, etc. Breakfast is very ordinary, and served in a quiet little
courtyard at ground level. It's got to be the safest hotel in Rome, located right
across the street from the Ministry of Police. there are literally two armed
policemen on the quiet little street 24 hr per day. It is centrally located on Via
Cesare Balbo(#31), a very quiet, narrow, one way street w. little traffic just off
two major streets (west of intersection of Via Cavour and Via Depreti) about a
10 min walk from Termini, Vittorio Emanuele Monument, Colosseum, Santa
Maria Maggiore (a must see church; its Sixtine Chapel and Borghese Chapel
rival anything you will see in St. Peters). Both trattoria and market w/in half
block. Outdoor courtyards w. lawn swings on both 4th and 5th floors, w. nice
view of Maggiore about 3 blocks away.

You might try La Residenza at Via Emilia.

I don't think this has views of the city so this may be of no interest. I just booked at Hotel San Carlos after reading up on it.

Very central location, I did have a hard time deciding between this one and Hotel Teatro Pace as mentioned above. Fodor's rants and raves had good mention as well as bookchick.

If you might be interested in staying in a convent, try the Casa di Santa Brigida. It is located on Campo Farnese, one block from Campo Fiori - a tremendous location central to all the sites. It also has a rooftop terrace - perfect spot to end the day with a bottle of wine, a view of Rome, and next door to the Piazza Farnese, home of the French embassy since the 1600's. We had a terrific five day stay there this past September!

My wife, daughter & I are staying at the Teatropace Jan 5 - Jan 13. Got a rate under $120 but Rome hotel rates go down during that period.

We usually stay at the Albergo Portoghesi which I really like a lot, we just wanted to try something different.
