Hotels in Prague
 

Help. Going to Prague for the first time the weekend of Feb 6-8 in between biz trips. Never having been there, I'm not sure where to look to stay. I'll probably do the touristy things, so would like to be close. I'd also like more local (vs tourist trap) restaurants and beer halls.

Old Town or Mala Strana better for this?

We very much enjoyed the Hotel Kampa Garden, a high end budget place, located on Kampa Island. Kampa Island, just under the Charles Bridge, is a brilliant location that gives you the best of both worlds without the possible noise and hassles of either.

I like Old Town, others like Mala Strana, there is no one answer. Either is convenient enough. Both are obviously going to have lots of tourists.

Try to stay within walking distance of a Metro station and you will be OK anywhere. I do favour Pariska Street/Jewish Ghetto area, however.

In October I stayed at the Intercontinental, which is at the end of Paøížská Street very close to the Vltava, and it was very nice. It's just a short walk down Paøížská to see the sites in the Josefov, the old Jewish Ghetto, and then on to Staromestské námìstí, the Old Town Square.

Just stayed at Mandarin Oriental. Fantastic hotel, and they had a special rate that was less than the Intercontinental, which I didnt like. Its in a great quiet area.

We stayed just a few blocks from Old Town Square, at Hotel Antik, Dlouha 22. It was quiet on the street the hotel's on, but close enough that we could visit Old Town Square at any time of day. It's great for people-watching and cafe-sitting.

We stayed at the K+K Hotel Central in Nov 2007 and would stay there again. It's located on a quiet street one block from the Powder Gate. Our room was spacious and clean, the staff was extremely helpful and the buffet breakfast plentiful. Also appreciated the free wireless Internet access in the room and complimentary wine and beer every afternoon in the bar. Took the tram to the Castle area, walked across the Charles Bridge and through Old Town, Wenceslas Square and other sections of Prague. Prague is a great walking city, though you'll want to wear a scarf/gloves/hat in Feb. Have a great time!

Ended up staying at the Hotel Perla. Not bad at all. Close enough to Wensesclas to go if you want, but far enough away if you didn't. Easy walk to old town and there is a tram stop not too far away to get up to the castle. English spoken here and the rooms were pretty good. I'd recommend it as an option, but will most likely stay on Kampa Island or Mala Strana next time
