Hotels in Positano
We will be finishing up a tour of S. Italy with a 3 day stay in Positano in late May and are looking at 4 possible places to stay. Although there is a difference in price we are more interested in location ( I am an amateur but avid photographer) regarding town/ocean views, services provided, access to local bus, amenities etc. They are as follows: Villa Franca, Positano Art Hotel Pasitea, L'Ancora and Eden Roc. If anyone has stayed in either of these hotels we would appreciate your comments good or bad.
Thanks, Bob |
Hi Bob,
My wife and I stayed in the Eden Roc in September 2010 and absolutely loved it.First of all the hotel is beautiful. We were greeted by a very friendly and caring staff. We had a one bedroom suite with a balcony that overlooked the ocean. The room was very well appointed and extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast that was served was excellent. I would stay here again in a heart beat!! Bob |
Bob....thanks for your comments. In addition to the ocean view does it afford a view of parts of the town as well?

Bob,
What is your price point? We've stayed many times in Positano, but always at Hotel Poseidon. I think (?) it might be in the same range as the other hotels you've mentioned. The Poseidon is one of our favorite hotels. It's located just uphill from Le Sirenuse, so about midway up from town, which means less "hiking" back and forth. Many of the rooms offers gorgeous views of the town/beach. And the staff is one of the most gracious we've encountered anywhere in Europe. There's an outstanding breakfast buffet served on the restaurant terrace, which again offers spectacular views of town and the beach below. The restaurant connects to a deck with a tiny pool and bar. There's also a spa and small gym on site. And although we've never done it, a yellow VW parked outside the hotel, can be used by guests to exploring surrounding towns/cities. I have also heard great things about Albergo Miramare, but have not stayed there. Good luck with your choice! |
WE seem to attract Bobs to this thread, so why not one more.
I agree with the Poseidon as a good option and would add the the Marincanto to the mix. Here are some shots from our most recent trip to the AC, but we stayed in Praiano. http://www.slowphotos.com/photo/show...y.php?cat=4481 |
I second the vote for the Poseidon. We stayed in a villa just 70 steps down the hill, facing the same way as the Poseidon, and the views were fantastic. I got some wonderful shots of the sun rising over the hills on the other side of town on a couple of mornings. The views at night over the town and the water are also fantastic.

We stayed in The Poseidon's top floor "Funny Suite" last summer. It had a small bedroom and living room, but the crowning glory was the outdoor terrace which ran half the length of the hotel, and was ours, totally private! We could've slept out there. The views at night when town was lit up were spectacular. Then again, they weren't bad in the day, either.

Hi Bob,
I am very sorry for the slow response to your question. Yes, there is a view of the city from the Eden Roc Hotel. Bob |
I would second the recommendation of the Miramare -- and I have stayed there. Unbelievable views, even from the shower!
|
I would recommend Palazzo Murat http://www.palazzomurat.it right in the centre of the town but hidden in a pleasant garden.
Romantic, quiet and ... I mean, what else could you want from a holiday in Positano? |
I just had to reply, I know nothing about any of the hotels but my middle name is Bob (honest). Apologies for attempting to be the slightest bit funny but at least it gets the message to the top for more serious contemplation.

Only been to Positano once and stayed at the Marincanto. Fabulous people, fabulous views. I'd go back in a heartbeat!!! After reading the posts here, though, I am thinking that you possibly cannot go wrong with any of these choices.
