Hotels in Positano??

Hello,

My finance and I are headed to Italy for our honeymoon Sept 22- October 4th. We have pretty much decided on Positano for a few days of indulgence and beach time, and then we will head north to Cinque Terre for a few days.

I have a few questions:

Does this seem reasonable given our timeframe?

Does anyone have hotel recommendations for Positano? We want honeymoon-quality but not outrageous $$.

What is the easiest way to get to Positano from Rome?

Thanks!!!

Hi,

Your trip seems reasonable. Are you leaving out Rome?

I suggest that you go to www.venere.com and try to book a hotel NOW.

You might also want to consider Praiano. We will be staying at the Hotel LeSirene the first week in Oct.

Keep in mind that the beaches are rocks, not sand.

The easiest way to get to Rome is to hire a private limo (about 300 - 400E).

The next way is a limo from Positano to Naples (90 - 100E) and train to Rome.

The usual way is SITA bus to Sorrento. Circumvesuviana train to Naples and train to Rome.

Have a wonderful honeymoon.

We're staying at the Albergo California in Positano in early October. Haven't stayed there before but have heard good things. You may want to try there. Do a search on this website for reviews.

Yes, we are leaving out of Rome. I think the trip seems reasonable, althought we'd like to spend more time up north at Cinqu Terre and surrounding area to do some climbing.

Sounds like Positano is the place, but I'd still love to hear from anyone who had a great hotel in Positano! Has anyone stayed at Pupetto's or Vittoria??

Thanks!

Stay at Hotel l'Ancora. They have a suite with a Jacuzzi tub on the terrace.
You should probably hire a car to drive you to Naples train station and from there take a train to Rome.

Hi italyclimber,

Your timing sounds good to me. A few days in positano will be great. It is a beautiful place and if the hotels still have their pools open at that time, it will be nice to soak up the sun.

My husband and i stayed at La Fenice, which is nice for a budget place, but it probably isn't what you are looking for for a honeymoon. A lot of people on this board reccommend Le Sirenuse. We had a drink there and it looked fabulous. You can read about it if you click on the hotels section of this site and then go down to Italy and click on the section that says "Amalfi Coast."

We also traveled from Rome to Positano. We took the train to Naples. You then have to change trains and take another train to Sorrento. You then have to change to a SITA bus that will take you to Positano. Since this was so much changing, we stayed for a night in Sorrento before heading on to Positano, which worked out very well. You can see Sorrento in one day and then move on.

If you have more questions, let me know. Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Thanks! It seems that most hotels are in the 250-300 E range, at least for the nicer hotels. Any one know of something in the 200 range that is just as nice??

Hotel l'Ancora should about 230 for the regular double room. It is very nice.

Check the Hotel Poseidon, a 4-star just up the road from Le Sirenuse. It is exceptional in every way. I'm afraid that it may be priced out of your budget, but then again it's worth checking since you're going end of September. We stayed there two years ago, and visited again this July. If you can't stay there, at least go for a drink or lunch on the spectacular restaurant terrace. The view is something you won't forget!

Congratulations and good luck.

We stayed at Hotel Villa Franca earlier this summer. The room was small to medium but had very nice details including ceramic tiling on the floor, a large wonderful bathroom and a private terrace overlooking Positano. The hotel had a wonderful breakfast which could be taken in their dining room or delivered to your room. So romantic! The hotel also had a very nice pool. Villa Franca is near the top of Positano but the hotel offers a shuttle van down to the restaurants. The shuttle was frequent and convenient and being so high up afforded wonderful views and more quiet and privacy. I highly recommend.

OOOOOhhh, Positano!

You'll love it. I'd rent a car and stop at Pompeii on the way to Rome.

BTW, lots and lots of things to see around Positano if you get a car...Rafello, etc.

Be sure to go to Capri too, of course.

The Villa Rosa, for about 140 euro, is not luxury, but the vista of mountains and sea cannot be beaten, in my book! The hotel is bright, charming, nicely decorated, and most (if not all?) of the rooms (which are good sized) have a private terrace where you are served breakfast (included in price) each morning! Idyllic! I think it would be a great place for a honeymoon unless you want a splurge, like Le Sirenuse, right across the street. Check out its website www.villarosapositano.com

Bummer Villa Rosa is completely booked. Any other recommendations out there??
