Hotels in Paris-non smoking

I have been looking for a hotel in Paris with more than just a few no smoking rooms and I find this criteria to be severe in limiting the choices so my question is" Does the room cleaning process and subsequent spritzing of room fresheners get rid of the odors sufficiently well enough to eliminate this requirement"?

We can usually tell when someone's smoked in a room and always ask for non-smoking rooms. Some Paris hotels have entire non-smoking floors, mostly the large chain operations. That's what you should look for, and be sure you get a firm commitment to be put on that floor--not just "if available."

You'll also want to look for restaurants that are entirely non-smoking; I believe Le Florimond is one.

Unfortunately, the fresheners are sometimes worse than the smoke. Here's a good site for non-smoking restaurants with limited recs for lodging:

For sure, some of the fresheners and cleaning products make your eyes water!

More and more hotels have non-smoking floors, and this is noted on their website.

It may be a limitation if you are only looking for hotels with many rooms that are non-smoking or many floors, but a lot of hotels now have some and they do mention it on their web site. I don't know why you must have many rooms that way since you only need one, and the cleaning process is a different story -- a true nonsmoking room means they reserve it and keep it that way so the other stuff isn't necessary (room fresheners). Even if they only have a few rooms that are one half of one floor, that should be enough for you.

LIbertel Hotels (a French chain) have a lot of hotels with large numbers of nonsmoking rooms and nonsmoking floors. These are noted on their web site if you go to the room description section for a particular hotel (it tells you total no. rooms and no. nonsmoking rooms). www.libertel-hotels.com

BobG,

They smoke in Europe. Either accept it or don't go. You are in their country. If it's going to be a problem, well, you have options. At least most of the hotels have windows that open.

Le Meridien Montparnasse had a large number of non-smoking floors. It was great to have a room and corridor and elevator where there was no smell of smoke at all (there was some in the lobby from time to time).

We stayed at the Hotel Muguet in July and the whole hotel is non-smoking.
