Hotels in Paris close to Gare Montparnasse
 

Husband and I are looking for a hotel that is right close (within walking distance) to the Gare Montparnasse, we are taking the TGV to Angers the next moring.

There are at least 50 hotels next to Gare Montparnasse. Just do an online search through the usual sites and ask for one next to the station. They exist in every price range.

For one night, there are Ibis hotels a block or two away in a couple of directions. They are usually very basic, cheap, clean and include better breakfasts than a Holiday InnExpress or
Hampton Inn.

I wouldn't want to spend my entire visit there, but for a night it would be fine.

I stayed at the Pullman-Montparnasse when it was the branded as a Meridien hotel. It was comfortable, the rooms larger-than-average, and comparable to a Sheraton or Hilton. The hotel is across the street from the side of Monparnasse station, with the Air France bus to CDG directly across the street. The hotel has no particular charm, and it's not in a great location for exploring the city, but it's fine for a purpose such as OP's.

Citadines Maine Montparnasse is across the street from the Gare Montparnasse. The beds are mostly sofa beds, but they are very comfortable.

If you want budget, I've stayed in the HOtel Delambre and it's nice enough for a budget hotel. It's about as far as you'd want to be for walking with luggage, most likely. I've done it from there, taking a train to Bordeaux. It won't be as comfortable as the Pullman, though.

It is a 3* which kind of surprised, me it seems 2*ish (and used to be). That lobby looks very nce and is, the rooms are fairly basic, as you can see.

There is another hotel just down the street from the Delambre which is nicer. I was only there one night so didn't want to spend more, but if it's in your budget, I'd recommend the Hotel Lenox Montparnasse. http://www.paris-hotel-lenox.com/en/

There are several hotels virtually right across the street from the station, in addition to the Pullman, like the Waldorf

I haven't been in it, it gets good reviews on tripadvisor, etc. It certanly would be convenient, and I guess woudln't be any noisier than that Pullman being on the same main street. It all depends on where your room is, probably.

There are a couple budget to moderate French chain hotels on the other side of the station which would be okay. The Timhotel and an Ibis. Both are good reliable hotel brands.

The Timhotel is right across the street from it on a main street, the Ibis a bit down a side street which might be more desirable.

Ibis hotels are good for quick nights like this.

Both the Tim and Ibis mentioned above are very close to the Gare -- the Tim is a bit closer but on the edge of the very busy (and probably noisy) Place where the Gare and the Tour Montparnesse are. We stayed a month in an apartment a few doors down from the Ibis, and it was a very nice neighborhood, even though just steps from a Montparnesse Metro station entrance and, a little farther, the Gare entrance itself. I would vote for the Ibis.
