Do the hotels in Paris charge per person or room? Three of us are planing to go wondering if the rates I found online are per room or person.

It varies. Some may charge a little more for a second person as there are additional costs associated for each person in a room: water usage, towels dirtied, etc. Also, if you eat breakfast in the hotel that may be charged per person.

Finding a hotel that will take a third person in the room will take some extra effort. The prices you have found online should specify whether the price is for two people in a room or some other configuration.

In general, price will vary according to the number of occupants. The same room occupied by three will cost a bit more than when occupied by two.

You have 'single' room, or 'double room' with twin beds or a big one.
Price is different for single than twin.
but a twin room is the same price for 1 or 2 people.
Then if you require a third person, you can 'cram' a third one in a twin room, for an extra price, or find a triple room.
Then you'll pay a small tax per person. Usually about 1,5 € per night/person.

However don't try to come with 3 people in a room made for 2 without informing the hotel. Some hotels will just turn away the third person or cancel your room.

Never heard of any hotel that charged "per person" literally, that doesn't really make sense (except a hostel with group rooms). You pay for the room, which is generally based on size (and the regular vs superiod category, of course). Sometimes some hotels give a slight discount to singles staying in double rooms, of course, due to less work/linens, etc for the staff. Certainly not half the rate, though.

Some websites may quote per person to try to trick you, you just have to look at the website. most don't, but I've seen some who do.

Hotels in Paris typically have single rates, they have double rates and if they will accommodate more, the price increases for triples. Effectively, they are indeed charging <i>per person</i>. The <i>taxe de séjour</i> that you will pay is also charged per person.

Paying for a room does not mean that you can indiscriminately add people beyond those who originally check in.

Of course some hotels do -- haven't you ever seen "per person double occupancy" ? Not as common as priced per room, but not at all unusual or odd.

Usually the price is per room - but a room for 3 people will cost more than a room for 2 people in the same hotel, although it is rarely 50% more. When checking you have to input the number of people to get the appropriate price since a room for 3 will almost always be larger- and would include 3 breakfasts versus just 2.

Also you need to check if the room is actually set up with 3 beds or if it's one double bed and they just stick in a roll-away for the 3rd person.

When using any of the discount hotel search sites you can almost always input the number of people. If not, assume the price is only for 2 and you would have to check with the hotel if they can take a 3rd person and how much more it will cost. (Quite a few rooms are just too small and you can't fit 3 people.)

Yes, Christine, I've also seen many, many hotels that charge per person. This is particularly true when breakfast is included in the price of the room. I've found that to be the case in many hotels in Switzerland and some in Germany.

You will need to find a triple room in Paris. Even if all 3 of you plan to sleep in the same bed. Room price is based on the number of people occupying the same room.
