Hotels in Paris
 

I'm looking for an affordable hotel in Paris (around $150 a night) in June. I'm 23 and will traveling with my boyfriend. This is our first time in Paris. We were originally scheduled in a budget hotel, Port Royal, but we are now able to expand our budget and are hoping to be in a better location. I was thinking the Latin Quarter or La Marais, but I am open for anything as I am not at all familiar with good locations. Please let me know if you have any recommendations that may work.

If you don't stay too many nights at the same place you can find good deals on booking.com or hotels.com.
For example I slept in hotel 'Nevue' not long ago, for 99 €, when tarrif says 300 €/night.
In Le Marais or close I'd recommend Hotel du College de France.
That's all I can recommend, been in other but above 150 €/night.

Well, I think that is an excellent location myself, why don't you? I suppose because it's not within view of the Seine or something. It's a pleasant neighborhood, only a couple blocks to rue Mouffetard which is fun for eating, bars, and it is only about a block from a metro stop and on a good bus line. And that area will be cheaper to eat and other things than the popular tourist areas you name, particularly Le Marais.

But June is high season, so maybe a 2* hotel is about right for your budget. Or a very cheap 3*.

Latin Qtr is generally cheaper. Marais is pricey

My mom was told from a friend who lives in the city that it is not the best location and a bit unsafe. I am most interested in a good location that makes getting around easy. She now feels uneasy if I stay at the Port Royal, though it looked excellent to me. So, she is willing to upgrade my stay, though only slightly in budget. Port Royal was 68 euros a night for a communal bathroom.

Rachel.. if they have a vacancy.. this hotel would be great. Location is perfect.. walk to many sites, from RER from airport,, to many bus and metro lines, stores , cafes, museums.. and only 5 minute walk from Seine.. I have stayed here twice.

Hotel is AIR CONDITIONED.. not easy to find in cheaper hotels ( College du France is nice hotel in good area also.. but no ac!) ...

Downside is rooms are SMALL.. very small , and plainly decorated. Staff however are pleasant and rooms were clean.

Hotel St Pierre.. on rue Du Ecole De Medicine.. ( so its technically in the 6th but right on border of 5th )

I think staying central is a huge bonus for first time visitors.. walking out the door and being "there" is great.. and so much within easy walking distance ,,you will spend less on transport tickets.

5th ( Latin quarter) 6th ( St Germain)

Take a look at www.AirBNB.com. Surprising number of locations and the prices are attractive. I have not used them but have heard some friends say it worked well for them.

Don't spend too much time hesitating, I just booked 2 nights in june and hotels start to be full.
A hotel in which I slept for 50€ last july is being offered at 115 €/night mid june.
At 50 it is ok, at 115 it is a ripp-off.

Pay attention with appartments, sometimes it is ok, but do check.

Would you consider a hostel? Many have private rooms with ensuite bathrooms. I don't have any direct experience, but I heard great reviews from my daughter and her boyfriend (ages 21 and 23) when they stayed in some very nice hostels while traveling in Europe this past January. Costs vary, but under $100 is not unusual.

Hotel College de France is a great suggestion but probably already full for June. If you give us the dates it will prevent some of us from recommending hotels that are already full.

Saphir Cambronne is one of the few in your price range that I see available on your dates. We have stayed at one of their sister properties before and found it very clean and friendly. If you book directly on the website they will include breakfast, (other websites may mention that they serve breakfast but not state that it's included in the price). Tiny rooms but worth it for the private bath in my opinion. Ours had small tv & fridge & small bathroom, and I think a safe which was 2 or 3 euros a day to use. Short walk to La Mocque Pique Grenelle metro and a couple of other metro stops within a few more blocks.
