Hotels in Munich

We had our hotel in Munich all set up until we changed our dates last week. Now they are booked full for 2 of the 5 nights we will be in Munich (mid May).

We (wife and I) would like something under $150.00/night in central Munich. We want something "old style"; not sleek, new Munich Hilton or something.

Easy walk to shopping, restaurants and bars encouraged. Appreciate any help.

Dick

Dick, try the Platzl hotel - it is right in the center of town- one block from Houfbrauhaus - but it is not noisy or anything like that - just a great location. The service was great and the room was wonderful. (we each had our own bathroom and it was not a suite) My husband and I were just there 2 weeks ago and would go back again and stay in a heartbeat. They also had a good breakfast buffet that is included in the price of the room.
Good luck,
Lori

We stayed at Hotel Daniel, on the edge of old town. It was walking distance to Marienplatz, etc.Easy access to public transportation, shopping and dining - from beergartens to "upscale".
Internet : http://www.Hotel-Daniel.de

Have a great trip !!!!

We stayed at the Hotel Torbreau, the oldest continually operating hotel in Munich, this summer and it was great. It is across the street from the Izator subway stop and about a 3 or 4 minute walk from Marienplatz. The rooms were very large and the breakfast was very good and could be served outdoors, weather permitting. The hotel restaurant was also very good. I believe the rate for a double was around $125US. They also let us check-in at 7 AM after a horrible overnight train experience. There website is the following: http://www.torbraeu.de/english/torbraeu.cfm

I stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Astoria on Nicolaistrasse in Schwabing.
The hotel is near the Gieselastrasse Ubahn stop, which is 3 stops from downtown and 2 stops from Odeonsplatz.
The hotel is just off of a main shopping street that has all kinds of stores on it, including some fabulous Italian ice cream shops at which you can blow your caloric budget all to pieces.
The hotel was very pleasant and the breakfast was super.
I've stayed at the Hotel Torbrau, also and I highly recommend it!! My parents always stay there, too. This June I stayed at the Hotel Marienbad. We paid about $100.00/night. It is only maybe 3 or 4 blocks from the Hauptbahnhof. Very quiet neighborhood and easy walking to Everything. Nice staff, too and very clean although the walls are a bit thin (this wasn't really a problem at all, we just noticed it from time to time). I think their website is www.hotelmarienbad.de. Have a good time!

You people are GREAT!! I've been getting a headache trying to make some decsions.

I "think" I've narrowed it down to the Torbrau and Hotel Concorde. They are close to each other and also close in price.

As an aside, we plan to be in Munich for 5 nights starting on a Thursday and leaving the following Tuesday. The Hotel Torbrau quoted 2 different prices for different nights

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Concorde?

Dick

Somehow, I cut myself off.

As I was saying, I received one price for Thursday and Friday night, and different price for the other 3 nights. I also had one hotel quote 3 different prices for the same period. Very stange.

Dick

Made our descion! I emailed the Hotel Torbrau and asked it they would give us the less expensive rate for the entire 5 nights. They replied that they would only charge the higher rate for 1 night, rather then 2. In effectd, we will pay a higher price for 1 night, and the lower price for the other 4 nights.

Sold!! By averaging out, it comes to $148.00/night including all taxes and buffet breakfast.

Thanks again for all your help. Will let you know about this hotel when we get back.

Dick
