would like to find a reasonably priced hotel in madrid. Centrally located .

The Hotel Mora is not totally centrally located but is not far. It is across the street from the Prado Museum and easy access to public transportation. We paid approx. $50.00/night for a clean room. Ask for a room in the back, as the front can get noisy at times. There is an attached restaurant that is not to bad. <BR>Regards, <BR>Art <BR> <BR>

I stayed at the Ambassador and the Santa Domingo -- they're right around the corner from each other and close to the Royal Palace. I strolling through the gardens first thing in the morning. As for the hotels themselves -- the Ambassador was nice, but felt too much like a chain for my tastes, even though it's housed in a historic building; the Santa Domingo was cute, though my room was on the small side and looked onto an airwell. Would I recommend either? Sure; no complaints. <BR>Stuck my head into the Mora and the Carlos V, too, and liked the looks of both. They're in a lower price range (especially the Mora). I think I'd probably opt for one of them on my next trip. I never used the perks that up a hotel's cost, like room service, concierge, etc.

Our family stayed in the Hotel Carlos V, a Best Western, located between the Gran Via and Puerto del Sol, in the very center of Madrid. (not sure of price but around $100 a night for 2 double beds and a nice breakfast during Easter week, and it has airport transportation) The hotel was quaint, had a/c, and balconys off our room that we could stand on. Because the street was closed off to cars,and our window had many layers of curtains, it was very quiet. (half block walk to the entrance). Very pleasant street guitars playing flamenco in the early evenings. We were able to walk to the Prado. I do advise caution walking in the evening since our adult children witnessed a camera being yanked off an older tourist's shoulder (by a teenager who disappeared quickly in the crowd. Judy

Three years ago we stayed at Hostal Dulcinea and paid $30 a night. It was very simple but quiet and in a wonderful location right across the street from the Prado in a lovely neighborhood with winding narrow streets. The address is Calle Cervantes 19. Tel. 91-429-9309. (p.s. I learned about it on this forum.)
