hotels in Lyon
 

We will be in Lyon mid-September.
It has been years since our last visit.
Would love a suggestion for a hotel.
Possibly 4 star, but would go to 5, if it was exceptional.
Don't want anything "stuffy".
We prefer relaxed and friendly.
Most important, is the Location.
I would like a hotel within walking distance of almost everything.
Best location for walking around.
Possibly old city?
Closest to shops and restaurants.
noise never bothers us.
Any suggestions would be appreciated..

Cour des Loges
Villa Florentine (Relais et Chateaux)

Both in Old Town

I'd do a search here, there are some reviews...

I did check the two hotels.
Cour des loges looks charming, and a possibility.
Villa Florentine Hillside doesn't.
My main concern is to be in the "hub".
When I was deciding where to go someone mentioned the "Presqu'isle" area.
Possibly not the old town?
Most interested in busy lively location.

I haven't been yet but just booked the Royal Lyon, now a Mercure hotel, not Sofitel, right on Bellacour Place, 5 minutes walking to Old Town, listed as #2 on tripadvisor.

You know Cour des Loges, as with VF, is also in the Old Town, right?

OK, on presqu'ile is Hotel des Artistes, which several people here have recommended.

Superior rooms at four stars Hotel Royal in Place
Bellecour were very nice indeed. I loved to stay there.
Classic French chic , neat, elegant and covenient.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel La Residence. In 4 days we really only uised the excellent Lyon transportation system twice, once to go to Croix Rouge and once to see the painted buildings further out on the new town side. We walked to the old town, took the funicular to Notre Dame De Fourviere, walked all around the Old town. We never had to use transport to go to any other museum or really good restaurants.

The room was spacious, had a lovely bath, internet access(free) in the lobby, and an excellent breakfast.

Lyon is not really large and they have a good metro system, so I might consider a hotel that matches my needs, and walk/metro to the sights, restaurants.

The Royal is booked for our dates.
We took too long to make a decision.
We decided that we would prefer to stay in the Presqu'isle area.
Is the Sofitel just as well located? It was not suggested here, but has availability.
Otherwise, we will book Cour des Loges.

The Sofitel Lyon Royal is now the Mercure Royal Lyon so it is no longer a Sofitel hotel. There is another Sofitel at the Airport according to trip advisor.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel (Boscolo) earlier this year at the end of our ski trip at the Alps. Great location. I think it is a 4-star. Rooms are generous in size albeit dated furnishings. Marble bathrooms with the latest amenities.

If your have a car, the parking station is only a couple of minutes walk away at Rue de la Republique. I think they charged 25E per day.

Cour des Loges, you wont be disapointed.

Good choice. We had dinner there and it was wonderful.

Cour des Loges is in the old town. Note that car access is quite difficult but within walking distance to Metro. Or you may choose to hire a bicycle!

We stayed at Cour des Loges, and it was most enjoyable.
The hotel is small, and the staff are first rate.
I was worried about the distance from the hotel to the "hub".
It was less than a ten minute slow walk from the hotel, and I actually preferred returning to the old city at night.
One complaint, only.
If anyone plans to stay there bring a reading light, as it is the darkest rooms imaginable.
When I mentioned it to one of the staff, she smiled and told me that the owner had decorated the rooms, and that she considered the dimness "charming".
She said that everyone complains, but the owner-designer won't change the lighting.
The concierge staff at this hotel were beyond expectation.
Quite the best I have encountered outside of the Orient.
Lyon was easy to walk, and for a big city very easy to navigate.
And the food of Lyon, WOW!
We had a most amazing meal at Le Bec.
Would return to Lyon just to eat Chef Nicolas Le Bec's food!
The Art Gallery was overwhelming, and I now understand why it is called the "miniature Louvre".
Great city to visit.
