Hotels in London, Paris

Hi All,
I'll be staying in the following hotels in London & Paris. Does anyone have any feedback based on their experiences at these hotels. I'll be traveling in mid-October.

Oxford Hotel in London close to the Metro/Underground

Londres Et D'Anvers in Paris close the Metro stop

Thanks

The Anvers metro stop has some cheap places to get food nearby, but it might not be your preferred area as it's not very central.

m_k2-

A quick search on google for Oxford Hotel in London yields this:
http://www.oxfordhotellondon.co.uk/

Oxford Hotel London
13 Craven Terrace London W2 3QD
United Kingdom

The reviews on Oxford Hotel on tripadvisor.com range from decent to down right awful.

W2 - Bayswater/Hyde Park areas - is central, no great local dining, but middle/lower end restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The location isn't bad, but as the previous poster noted, there are some awful reviews so it could be a gamble.

BTW, is the hotel in Paris called Hotel Londres Anvers
133 boulevard Magenta
Paris 75010
France

If it is, consider going somewhere else. The tripadvisor reviews range from "apalling" to "a dump".

I'm not sure how you found these hotels. Maybe if you give us your budget, we can give you some better recommendations???

Oh, reignman4, from your other post I realize that this is your HONEYMOON. I think it's best if you find alternative accommodations.

It looks like there are two Oxford Hotels in London - one in Bayswater and one in Earls Court. It sounds like maybe the really awful review on the Bayswater tripadvisor page may be mixing the two up.

Hi,
I believe the Oxford Hotel is close to Earls Court metro station/stop...

The Londres Et D'Anvers Hotel in Paris is about 5 minutes from Train Station "Gare Du Nord."

That's what I know so far..

Thanks

reignman, it appears you have chosen two not so great hotels in two not so great areas in two wonderful cities. Perhaps if you tell us your price range, one of the many experts on the board can provide some alternative suggestions.

Hi,
I would say between $80 - 100 for a room, but that may or may not be enough in London. If that is not high enough, then we can go little higher in price, but I definitely don't want to pay so much for a room and then not being able to do other activities like sightseeing the city since we have never been there before..We would like do the city tour, windsor castle tour, and play or two among other things..

Thanks

Since you're shopping rates but you need a better feel for neighborhoods, let me offer a couple of specific suggestions that you can take a look at. Here's a nice place that you might want to check for special offers in London that is right next to Victoria Station. The Thistle Victoria is a classic:

http://www.thistlehotels.com/thistle...Link/index.jsp

If that doesn't produce a decent rate for the time you're staying, here's another in the same neighborhood that probably will -- the Comfort Inn Victoria:

http://www3.choicehotels.com/ires/en...ndon&sort=

There is great tube access, but also a lot within walking distance, too.

In Paris, you'll get many suggestions. Personally, I stay outside of the main tourist areas because things can be a little less crowded, I can get more hotel for the money and there seem to be more low-priced choices for places to eat, etc. (Just because I'm a tourist doesn't mean I don't want to get away from them, too! LOL!) Here are two that you can check out with helpful, English-speaking people on the desk, low rates and interesting neighborhoods with great metro access -- Grand Hotel Francais in the Place de la Nation area:

http://www.grand-hotel-francais.fr/english/accueil.html

and another in the Republique area, the Ibis Replublique:

http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/ficheh...he_hotel.shtml

Ibis can be one of the budget traveler's best friends, but paying attention to neighborhoods in these cities as well as the quality of the properties will certainly make a difference in the quality of your trip.

On a tight budget I strongly suggest using Priceline in London. It's the best deal going. Read biddingfortravel.com a few times and maybe also betterbidding.com before attempting this. See what other people are paying for rooms.

For Paris, do a text search here for budget hotels. There are dozens of threads with good suggestions.

Good luck!

Here's a thread that mentions some prices/places people have gotten in London on Priceline. It also suggests some air/hotel package sites in case you haven't bought air tickets yet. I was actually looking for a thread in which there was an outstanding "deal" mentioned for the Holiday Inn Mayfair (London) which is a hotel everyone loves in a great location. Hope this helps

http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34514289

Here's the URL for that Holiday Inn promotion

http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/...rateCode=ISERN

The promo rate is "Europe for less" and there is a condition of 2 night minimum stay.

Here's the thread where it's mentioned

Reignman4, here is a small independent hotel that is near a Metro and shopping, as well as a roving market (underneath the Metro elevated tracks).

I have seen this hotel referenced in several publications, always with positive comments. It is very reasonably priced and should fit your budget while still providing some charm.

I don't know anything about this hotel except that it is not far from the Eiffel Tower area, near a metro and same market above, is in your price range, and has some good comments.
