Hotels in London Near Parliament and Tate Britain

Friends of mine will be going to London, Wales and Cornwall in 2015. While in London, they hope to visit Parliament and the Tates.

I've shared my London TR and the Strand Palace Hotel info with them. They have been to London before so are looking only for hotels convenient to the Tate Britain and Westminster. Any suggestions for 3-4 star places?

I'll start a separate thread for info in the other areas if they need it. Suggestions welcome and thanks as always.

There is a Doubletree by Hilton in John Islip Street which is roughly midway between Tate Britain and Parliament Square. I have never been inside, and it may be above your price range, but it would suit if location is the most important thing.

Thanks, jamikins and chartley. I had looked at that Doubletree before but County Hall is a new one. Will pass along the info.

Hey jamikins, upon googling 'county hall', several come up in the same region--any idea which one is recommended? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure jamikins meant the Marriott County Hall - by far the best. But there are others including the Premier Inn, Park Plaza etc. The Marriott is terrific.

Greetings TDUDETTE,

You mentioned that your friends "have been to London before so are looking only for hotels convenient to the Tate Britain and Westminster."

Sounds a bit restrictive. Do they plan to use the Tube or buses? You would be able to help them with the latter.

Thanks again, jamikins!

They'll probably take taxis and walk, lateday. As mentioned, they've been to London before (honeymooned there and Scotland). This trip's emphasis will be Cornwall area so the London part will emphasize places they missed or wish to revisit.

I can recommend the Tower Hotel right by Tower Bridge. It's a great location.

Thanks, Rubicund. They could probably walk to Tate Modern from there and take the shuttle boat to Tate Britain. Expect they'd prefer closer to TB though.

We stayed at The Sanctuary House which was about 1 block from Westminster - LOVED it! I have to think it has more charm than a Doubletree or Marriott.
