I am leaving for London tomorrow evening, so I can't tell you yet if where I am staying is good, but the reviews I read were quite positive. The hotel is called London Guards Hotel (www.londonguardshotel.co.uk). It is near Lancaster Gate tube station (close to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens)which is within reasonable walking or tube distance of the rest of the city. The price is right and according to reviews I read on Trip Advisor (www.tripadvisor.com) it is clean, well-kept and comfortable.

I'll let you know how it was when I get back!

At that rate, you will likely get shared bathrooms. And barring great luck, you're going to get something that's of a cheap standard, given how expensive London is.

But take a look at these sites:
http://www.travelodge.co.uk (don't take the outlying London locations)
http://www.laterooms.com
http://www.onetravel.com
http://www.travelaxe.com

Check the Holiday Inn site. Some prepaid rates are pretty good. If you go for the Holiday Inn Express, you also get breakfast.

Given your budget, I'd just take the tube from Heathrow.

(You could also consider getting TWO rooms on Priceline, but your budget is probably not high enough. One room would not work. I'd consider doing a bid, though, only after reading all the tips at BetterBidding.com and BiddingForTravel.com and asking for advice.)

Try hotels.com - I was able to book my room for about $150 per night (CAD, so probably a bit cheaper if USD). We have our own bathroom at this hotel, as well as a mini-fridge and in-room safe.

It's true that London is expensive and that this is still a budget hotel, but we are quite happy to have found something reasonable. I'm not sure if the prices will be different in March, but if you're a bit flexible with your dates, you will surely find what you want.

I would try bidding for a hotel on Priceline. I stayed at the Holiday Inn in South Kennsington (very convenient to the Gloucester tube station) for about $75 a night. You can take the blue (Picadily) line in from Heathrow direct to the hotel. The location was great - walk to museums and Harrods and of course the tube was right outside the hotel. The hotel itself was a typical Holiday inn - so not so English but for the price it was clean and a great stay. Great pub/bar for drinks too. Enjoy your stay and best of luck.

Hi

So that's a triple room? Try - http://www.bluebellshotel.com/index.htm or http://www.alhambrahotel.com or http://www.hydeparkinn.com/craven/home.asp#/ or http://www.hotelelysee.co.uk/

Good luck

Two rooms with Priceline could probably be had in mid-March for under $150 total, but you might find a better deal with a single room that will hold 3 people comfortably. I wouldn't risk a Priceline bid in London for a single room for three people, you are too likely to get a tiny room.

Check out the londontown.com website. THere are usually good deals on hotels there, particularly those in the Thistle chain. I don't know about 3 adults in the room, but you can normally find doubles for about $100 (U.S.) a nice if not particularly character-filled properties like the Thistle Lancaster Gate.

I second londontown.com. My husband and I went to London Monday night and were able to get a room at the Kingsway Hall Hotel for 69 pounds. It was a nice place and about a 3-minute walk from the Holborn underground station.
