hotels in Logrono,Spain
 

My daughter Son in law and I thought we had started in ample time to secure lodging in Logrono for early September. We do have budget restraints so we were looking for a room that would accommodate 3 people and therein lies our problem. Are there any suggestions for a suitable but low cost hotel? We may end up having to get two rooms. Our plans were to enjoy the wine district before heading to Santander

To be honest a three bedded room in Spain is not so common, especially for 3 adults. but doing a simple websearch I found this one, and there maybe more.

I do not have any experiance of the accommodation.
However going to a wine region in September may not be a good idea as it could be harvest time (VENDIMIA) there is a festival on or around the 21 Sept. every year. if you visit teh region tat the time of the vendimia then they will be closed to visitors.

Thanks for the info. We learned quickly that rooms that accommodate three are very rare in Spain. We are traveling early September and are contacting the Bodegas now for reservations.

Is there a Parador near there? They have great rates for travelers over 65 or under 30 something.

To qualify for the "young travelers" rate, one person in the party has to be 35 or under.

There isn't a Parador in the Logroño vicinity.

We just returned from yet another Logroño-La Rioja winery scouting mission (we do this twice a year) and saw two newish hotels in Logroño whose rates you might want to check for early Sept (pre Wine Harvest Festival).
They're both well located for walking around the historic quarter. We made note of them as an inexpensive alternative to our favorite downtown Logroño boutique hotel, the Marqués de Vallejo.

The first one is the 3 star Hotel F&G, whose jr. suites, at 149, will sleep 3 adults.

The second, the Sercotel Hotel Portales, with a really convenient location in the old quarter.
Here you would need 2 doubles, but double rates for the first week of Sept. start at only 51 euros.

In Logroño I really don't think you need to resort to a hostal or pension to find a good rate outside of the wine festival, Fiesta de San Mateo, dates.

But for winery touring you do need a car. Most of the wineries are outside of town. The one notable exception within actual walking distance of downtown would be the Bodegas Franco Españolas.

The other Logroño area wineries are a taxi ride away. Several, such as Marqués de Murrieta, Marqués de Arienzo and Darién are out on the highway to Zaragoza, near the airport. The most spectacular, the Bodegas Juan Alcorta, is outside of the city and a real challenge to find, and a GPS is of no help.

Many wineries in the Rioja region will be open for visits during harvest season, the vendimia, (which will happen later on in September) but hours may be truncated. Very few in the Rioja now close completely during the vendimia. The scene has changed considerably.
The excellent tourist office on the Paseo de Espolón will give you a list of visitable wineries and their opening hours.
