hotels in Lisbon

Hi,

PrinceOfPenguins and I are going to Lisbon 15-22 October.

I have gone through the net and through this and other sites, without getting any more un-clueless. We are looking for a hotel with the following requirements:

1. € 70-75 per room for the two of us, give or take, less is better.

2. Breakfast included, and at that a good breakfast (more than just a slice of bread with jam).

3. Non-smoking rooms.

4. Safe area. (We're both martial arts practitioners and hope to not have to use our skills.)

5. Otherwise OK, easily accessible location.

Thanks :-)

I have found www.venere.com user friendly and helpful. It lists price, location, star rating and reviews.

I have been in Lisbon 2-5 this month. I was with a friend at hotel Real Parque which is a 4-star not very very central but is very near from the Corte Ingles department store and the metro station. It is also at walking distance from the Gulbenkian Museum which is for me a "must" visit in Lisbon.
We paid 70 euros/night (buffet breakfast included) and booked through their website: www.hotelrealparque.com

They have no smoking rooms and the area is absolutely safe.

I forgot to say that going from the hotel to Belem (which is the farthest part of the city from the hotel) costs around 7 euros by taxi, they are really cheap !!

Thanks for the responses so far!

It seems like a lot of hotels are in "the financial district." I'm a bit skeptical. Does this area have restaurants/pubs one can go to in the evenings? Or is it dead in the evening like most other financial districts in the world?

Where we were was not dead at all. There were a couple of restaurants just in front the hotel but I suspect there has to be more nearby because there were a lot of people in the street. Also there was a big cinema besides Corte Ingles. Anyway, this was not exactly a business district and the fact that is very easy and cheap to move in Lisbon it's not very important if you are a bit "out" at the hotel.
