Hotels in Lausanne/Montreux area
Any suggestions regarding a good hotel in the Lausanne/Montreux or Lake Geneva area? Usually like at least three star hotels.
Also, which is the more interesting area to center in, Lausanne, Montreux, Geneva, Lake Annecy, Lake Neuchatel or in the hills above Montreux? Any one experience these issues? |
Hello lauren45,
I haven't been to Lake Annecy or Lake Neuchatel yet, but for the Lake Geneva area, I think Montreux's lakeside is the best. In my view, both Geneva and Lausanne are too large. And although one of my favorite hotels is in Glion above Montreux, I find I enjoy lakeside hotels better -- I like being able to walk out the door onto the promenade. But if you prefer panoramic views over the town and almost half of the lake, do think about the hills. As for the hotels I've stayed in or have noted other's recommendations, here they are. 4-star Hotel Eden au Lac, www.edenmontreux.ch, right on the lakefront promenade next to the Casino and the huge shopping Forum in the center of town. Hotel Victoria, member of the Relais and Chateaux group, in Glion above Montreux. 3-Star Hotel Masson, www.hotelmasson.ch, in the residential neighborhood of Territet/Veytaux, and a few blocks up from the lake. 3-star equivalent L'Ermitage, www.forum.ch/ermitage-clarens, in a suburb of Montreux, right on the lake. This place lists as a "restaurant with room" and has only seven rooms. Good luck! s |
Thanks so much for your kindness and informtion.

I can't help with hotel specifics as I am lucky enough to stay with friends who live there, BUT would suggest any along Lac Luman (what "Lake Geneva" is called locally) in either Vevey or Montreux.
Finding a 3+ star along the lake will be easy, they are all this or more (i.e., you won't find a cheap or shabby hotel on the water). The Vevey or Montreux location gives you easy walking access to the train station for touring further. Geneva is simply to big for me to get a handle on. Lausanne is nice but I've only visited briefly. Chateau de Chillon outside Montreux is a fantastic OLD castle to visit. From the train station (but different ticket booth) catch the Rochers de Naye sightseeing tram up the mountain thru Glion-Naye. And the Saturday early AM open air farmers market in the Vevey square is not to be missed! What a GORGEOUS part of the world!! |
Good morning, Luren46 Many years ago
at our last visit to Montreux we stayed at HOTEL HELVETIE, 32 Av Du Casino, which is a three star with 60 rooms. It is a wonderfully old hotel with decor and partrons that remind you of the Wagon Lits Days of the first quarter of the last century. Was in a good location close to the Casino and promenade at the lake. Had a fairly good dining room. about a five minute walk to the boat docks and vegetable market....
