Hotels in Istanbul

I'm looking for a hotel in Istanbul. I would prefer mid-range, near "tourist" locations. I've only got a couple days, so location is important.

Sultanahmet Palace (check out their website) is located right behind the Blue Mosque. Easy walk to Hagia Sofia and any other sites in that Quarter. It is also (in my opinion) the best Quarter to eat and peaceful walks around. There really isn't a great central location in Isatanbul. The Bazaar Quarter is central but I wouln't want to stay there.<BR><BR>Good Travels,<BR>Jonathan

we were in Istanbul last August 2001. We stayed at the Ayasofia Pansiyons. We needed room for 4 people and our room was ~$150 each night but came with breakfest every morning..smaller rooms may be less..the location was terrific..just behind the walls of the Ayasofia and close to the Blue Mosque, the metro train, Gulhane Park (zoo) and many other sites. Very safe and very clean. Great staff of english speaking, friendly people...I also remember a youth hostle just a few doors down..(we had cheep beers at their rooftop bar a few times)..might try that place if you are on a tight budget.Ayasofia Pansiyons 212/513-3660..good luck

kevin - <BR><BR>Also check out the hotel nena. It is located about 2 blocks from the blue mosque. I stayed at both the sultanhamet and the nena last spring and preferred the nena. the hotel is cheaper and just as well located, and the rooms were bigger too. We had a good size room with a balcony and an excellent view of the blue mosque for about $90.<BR><BR>On the web: www.nenahotel.com

First I would like to say thank you to the owner of the Apricot Hotel Hakan Kocaturk and all the people working in this nice and beautiful hotel. The hotel is an old house in the old city and really nice renovated. All the people working in this hotel are very kind and friendly, you seem to be a part of the familiy. No one was unfriendly in any case, everybody is attentive and takes care about you. For those people coming to Istanbul the first time: they will pick you up from the airport and will bring you there for free. This is very helpfull and another reason to choose this really nice hotel. All of the interesting historical monuments of Istanbul are close to here. It is easy to walk there, and Hakan Kocaturk was working as a tour guide before, so he knows everything about those monuments, especially if they are open or not. So if you would like to have a relaxing and trouble free holiday in Istanbul, there is only one choice: go to the Apricot Hotel. Feel free to ask me any question you would like to ask. I will answer all emails. Axel Richter<BR>"[email protected]"<BR>www.apricothotel.com

How considerate of you, Axel, to take so much time to so highly recommend a hotel. How many times have you stayed there and when? You are in no way connected with this hotel, I assume?

We stayed at the Sebnem Hotel in Sultanhamet in November 2000 for US$30 per night including breakfast. The room was small, but charming with a canopy bed and private bath.
