In 1997 we stayed at the Best Western President Hotel for a week. Great location, good breakfast buffet, bar and pool on top floor. Our room had a view of the Sea of Marmara and the Blue Mosque.

Joe, I've been researching Sultanahmet hotels myself. There's tons of good information here, both on the general Europe board and the Turkey board. Just do a search on "Istanbul hotel". From what I've read, the Four Seasons is tops, if you can afford it.

I was in Istanbul over this past Thansgiving and I would recommend either the the Four Seasons or try the Sultanahmet Palace Hotel.
