I am looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel in the Santa Maria Novella area of Florence. These have been recommended - Hotel Roma, Hotel de la Ville, Grand Hotel Minerva, Astoria, Hotel Magestic and Hotel Babilioni.Any input?Thank you - Lynn

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Minerva in Florence and it was awful!! Part of it was we had stayed at the Parco Principi Hotel in Rome which was spectacular and the Minerva is a VAST let-down. The rooms are spartan and barely furnished--reminded me of dorm rooms and there is a "park"/grassy knoll area in front of the hotel that has bums/homeless/winos all camping out all day long on the grass. Stay someplace else!

I highly recommend the Hotel Albani. I stayed there for 4 days last year and it was wonderful! It is on a quiet side street, Via Fiume, and the rooms are very nice and cool and quiet. The breakfast is excellent and they have a nice restaurant, although we only had lunch there once. I believe this is your best choice in this area.

Sandy

A great 5 star in Florence, the Helvetia & Bristol. Very quiet, beautiful rooms, good service. Centrally located, close to Santa Maria Novella, but maybe not in that particular area, I can't remember for sure.

Lynn,

I second the Helvetia e Bristol - it's about 5 blocks from the Church of Santa Maria Novella. I was searching for a luxury hotel for friends on their anniversary and, after the Lungarno where I was staying, I really liked the H e B - for location and ambience. Went to see a room - liked it a lot...

Dona
