Hotels in Fano in winter (cheap)

I'm intending to stay in Fano the first weekend in February to catch the pre-carnival procession on the Sunday. I'll be travelling by train so I'd like to know of inexpensive hotels in Fano near the rail station which are open in winter.

While I've only been through Fano by train on my way to Ancona just south of Fano, and so have no first hand experience of Fano's hotels, you might try contacting the Angela (tel.801239;fax 803102) or the Corallo (tel. 804200; fax 803637) for off-season rates and/or alternatives. My Marche Touring Club of Italy guidebook lists no cheap hotels for Fano. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't any. The two listed above have a 3 star rating. Try two sites: http://www.le-marche.com and http://www.turismofano.com. The latter has an English version.

Thanks for this. I think the touring club don't recognise hotels with fewer than 3 stars. The Marche website you gave lists over 50 hotels. The Fano website appeared only partially for me. My need is to find which of the hotels are near the train station and open in winter. As this is a summer resort, many hotels close in winter. I have emailed the Marche website for more precise information on these particular points.

I'm sorry you couldn't see all of the turismofano site as under "tourist services" they have listed hotels by star category and general area. One, the Anna Bruna, was a one star. And there were 4 or 5 two stars, as well. All in the area that appeared to contain the train station, though they did not provide a city map so it is hard to be sure how great the distances would be. There is a small city map in the Touring guidebook, but I don't have it here at work. Surely you'll get a helpful response from the Marche tourist office. Good luck & have fun!

Mailing the La Marche website brought a helpful response listing these 5 hotels.
***Hotel Paradise ***Hotel Corallo
** Mare ** Sassonia * Anna Bruna
The Paradiso had a website with good prices and a short walk from the train station down to the sea, so Iim in e-mail negotiations. Thanks for the help.

Glad one of the sites led you to a good hotel prospect. We had a great time in that part of Italy this summer. Hope you'll post when you get back on what it is like in winter, and about the event you're going to see. Have a good trip!
