Hotels in Edinburgh
We will be in Scotland for two weeks. We will have spent one week in Edinburgh and another week around Scotland. We have a 10:30 flight in the morning and want to stay in Edinburgh the night before rather then the aiport. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |
Don't know what time of year you plan to be in Edinburgh, but we enjoyed our stay at the Old Waverley Hotel right on Princes Street across from the Gardens. Right in the middle of everything. However, the OW is not air conditioned as is the cse with many of the old European hotels so you need to keep this in mind.
I booked our reservation online and got a rate of under 100 Euro including VAT and breakfast I believe. |
Depends on when you are coming to Edinburgh but a hotel such as the Radisson on the Royal Mile may be a good choice - edinburgh.radissonsas.com
It would enable you to walk to most of the attractions places of interest in the city centre and at the same time it is near some very good bus routes should you wish to travel in and around Edinburgh. It is also near a number of the pick up points for bus tours going outwith Edinburgh, and is only a five minute walk from the Waverley Bridge - Airport bus stance and the Waverley Railway Station should you think about a train journey anywhere. |
You have two threads running w/ the same question - sort of. One says you want to stay at the airport but the other says you want to stay in the city.
Both posted this afternoon - so which is it?? |
Would you be planning to get a bus to the airport or taxi ? If taxi, it doesn't matter where you stay. If bus, the Old Waverley as mentioned by Betty would be convenient as would be the Balmoral, the Roxburghe & a number of others. I wouldn't say the Radisson is. What's your budget ?

www.flybybus.com is the website of the direct bus from the centre of Edinburgh to the airport.
As you can see there are buses even in the wee (and not so wee) small hours Getting to the airport from the centre of Edinburgh isn't a problem so unless you like airport hotels there's no need to stay at one. |
The above should have gone on the "I want to stay at the airport" version.

Thank you for the help. We will be in Scotland for the Edinburgh Festival for one week and then round and about for the second. We have accomodations for everything except the night before we fly out from Edinburgh. I realized after I had posted the first question I had not been clear that I was trying to decide whether I needed to stay close to the airport. It is clear from your suggestions that I do not. Sorry for the confusion. We will try and find accomodations in town and take a taxi to the airport. |
If it's while the festivals are on, most places have a 3 night minimum. So your best bet might be to go back to the place you're staying initially.
