Hotels in Edinburgh
 

Would anyone recomment the Roxburgh or Holyrood Hotels in Edinburgh!<BR>Or any other hotel ideas, we are going in March and want to stay in the center of action!

Mmm. Action?<BR><BR>Well, the Holyrood is new; has been getting good reviews but at the bottom of the miles in closer to the centre of Holyrood Park, than "action" (this IS Edinburgh we're talking about?)<BR><BR>The Roxburgh is in a great location in the New Town (ie quite far from the castle, but very cetral for shops and galleries) Also a very nice hotel. Sorry I appreciate that doesn't help much

Hi,<BR><BR>I stayed at the Macdonal Holyrood hotel for 1 night in December ( my company booked dynamic earth across the street for a christmas dinner/party).It is beside the dynamic earth, near the building for the new Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Palace and Arthurs Seat. It is at the bottom of the Royal Mile leading up to the castle so it is all up hill to the castle 9 on the other hand it is all down hill to the hotel.)<BR>The rooms are very nice and modern with all facilites ie tea/coffee, satellite tv, shower and bath ( even had a bathrobe in my room). The hotel has a very modern gym and 17m pool with Sauna.<BR>It has a breakfast buffet which is good.It is probably 15-20 minutes walk to Princes Street though (depending on your walking pace)<BR>The Roxburghe I have not stayed at but it is just off Charlotte Square at the Western end of Princes Street so it is closer to the shops but still a fair walk to the castle and the Royal mile. It also has a gym and a swimming pool.<BR><BR>I think you will be pleased with whatever hotel you are staying at.<BR><BR>Hope this helps

Check out the Howard Hotel. Classy and not far from the downtown area.

We stayed at the Balmoral. It is a "Fodors choice", a very good hotel within walking distance from everything, since Edinburgh is so small. <BR><BR>PS - Listen carefully, and you will hear that natives pronounce it "Edinbutta".

We enjoyed the Christopher North. In New Town close to Charlotte Square. Beautiful hotel, huge room, and excellent rate. Nice owner, too.

Dave, I'm a native and I've never heard anyone pronounce it "Edinbutta". You didn't listen carefully enough and mis-heard the "r" sound, incorrectly aligning it with the way some people in the Eastern US pronounce "butter" - as "budda". Interesting that you spell it with two "t"s, when you are trying to communicate the sound of two "d"s.<BR><BR>Jay, as far as your choice of hotels goes, I would stay in the Roxburghe. However, there is very limited hotel parking and no curbside, meter-free parking for several blocks.

I stayed at the Roxburghe this past September for a couple of nights, and although the location was great for sightseeing and going out at night, I didn't think the hotel lived up to it's 4 star rating. It has a newer and an older part, and the rooms in the older part are the sumptuous ones pictured on the website & in the brochure. The newer rooms are clean and comfortable, but more run-of the mill like you would find in a sheraton (standard business room). It was comfortable, but not as luxurious as I'd expected for the price.
