HOTELS IN EDINBURGH

I am in urgent need of information on hotels in Edinburgh. My choices are Maitland, Holyrood, Channels, Old Waverly, and Roxburghe. Location and condition are the important aspects. Any help will be appreciated.

Maitland is in Shandwick Place, just off west end busy step right onto pavement.OK. Holyrood is new at bottom of Royal Mile - building work with new Parliament building nearby. Channels I don't know. Old Waverly used to be a temperance hotel - eg no drink served but right on Princes St. Roxburghe has just been refurbished and is in Charlotte Square at West End - it has health club etc.

Roxburghe's a nice one.

I just got back from staying at the Old Waverly and was quite pleased with my accomodations. The staff was very pleasant and the location was wonderful. From my room, I had a view of the castle. And the hotel does have a bar now and the hotel guests have access to a nice gym facility down the street at another hotel.

Enjoy your stay in Edinburgh - it's a beautiful city!

Cara's comment regarding the Old Waverly are right on. I too found the Old Waverly to be an excellent hotel and will stay there again if or when I return to Edinburgh.

We stayed at the Howard in 1992. Beautiful upscale bed and breakfast on a quiet street near downtown. I would stay there again on a future visit.

Hi
I've just spent a long weekend in Edinburgh on the Royal Mile (Auld Toon) and we stayed at the Scandic Crowne, very nice hotel with helpful staff and central to everything you will most probably want to do in the capital of Bonnie Scotland. We visited the Castle, the Palace, The Whisky trail, the Planetarium, also a great trip on the Royal Mile is to visit "Mary Kings Close", visit this site for all the info you need,
http://www.edinburgh.org/
rgds Royston
Stayed at the Roxburghe and really liked it. Very "American" in terms of room size and bathroom facilities. Staff very helpful, especially with getting an automatic car rented. Would not recommend their restaurant but right around the corner are plenty of places to eat and drink.
