Hotels in Edinburg Scotland
My boyfriend and I are looking for a hotel in Edinburg for 1 night. We would rather stay under $200, $150 would be even better. We are looking for a spot that is close to the train(back to London) and to city sights and nightlife/resturants? Please help. We are leaving the USA this Sat and still don't have plans set yet. Thanks for your help!

Sweet,
I believe the Ibis will fit into your budget. It is just up the hill from the train station just off the MM. They have nice rooms and a good breakfast. Have a good trip. Greg |
is Ibis close to everything we should see there? I have no orientation to the city at all.
Thanks again |
what about Tailor's Hall????

Judging by the Ibis's web site map, it's just off the Royal Mile and smack dab in the middle, as Greg said. For one night, I would think you'd be plenty close to whatever you wanted to do (Castle, Holyrood, Parliament, Princes Street, museums...).
|
I am not sure how it is now, but in 2001 we stayed at the Jury's Inn which was a great location.
|
Would you consided a bed and breakfast? I know a wonderful place called the Elmview. I have stayed there several times. They are centrally located and the hosts are very nice people.
|
I must have got out of bed on the wrong side, but the city is called Edinburgh and people on a European forum or anywhere else for that matter, assume that its in Scotland and not the one near Scratchpatch Arizona.

The Ibis is on Hunter Square which is bounded on one side(as much as an open space can be bounded) by the Royal Mile . Cannot be beat for location. Time to Waverley on foot is approximately 5 mins.

<<< Time to Waverley on foot is approximately 5 mins >>>
If you are local, fit & know the quickest way - for a typical tourist just off the bus / train 15 minutes is more likely As for location it's beaten by the Radisson SAS which does face onto the Royal Mile or The Scotsman. If you want cheap then the Travelodge on St Mary's Street cannot be beaten and would be well within OP's price bracket if they had booked wel in advance |
I'd also suggest the Ibis - it is certainly the closest budget hotel to the main sights. Some people stayed there for our wedding and said it was nice, but there have been more mixed reviews lately. Whenever I've stayed in an Ibis elsewhere it has been fine.
Other fairly central budget options are the Holiday Inn Express on Picardy Place & the Premier Travel Inn on Picardy Place. I would walk between the Ibis/HIE & Waverley (the main railway station) if unencumbered but not with luggage, though. Jury's Inn is the nearest to Waverley - almost opposite the back entrance on Market Street. Where are you arriving from ? Please don't tell me you are getting the train from & to London for 1 night here ! |
Sorry, that should have been Premier Travel Inn on Morrison Link.
