Hotels in Dresden, Heidelberg & Konstanz

If anyone has recommendations for hotels in Desden (1 night), Heidelberg (2 nights) and Konstanz (4 nights), the information would be most appreciated. Looking for rooms in the 100-150 USD range, with fairly good location to the train station in Dresden. A castle stay one night might be fun and would be willing to pay more for that sort of accomodation if needed. Also looking for suggestions for sightseeing, things to do, and places to eat in Desden and Heidelberg. Will be using train and local bus transportation.

Haven't stayed in two of those, but in Heidelberg we stayed at a wonderful old (12th century, as I recall) hotel right on the main square across from the big cathedral -- hotel was named Zum Ritter. Accommodations were fine, and their restaurant was one of the best we've tried in Germany. There's no permanent parking at the hotel because it is in the middle of the pedestrian area, but it appears you are probably going by train anyway. You could walk from the train station if you are in good shape, or you could take a taxi to the hotel. Enjoy an evening in one of the student rathskellers in the area, drinking beer and chatting with the university crowd. Good luck.

For Dresden:

The three star hotel Marthahospiz is highly recommended. It is located about 5 min. walking from the train station Dresden-Neustadt.

(for English version click link upper right)

Another option is the Pension Am Grossen Garten. Fodorites (friends of mine) have stayed there and were very pleased. It is located in a quiet residential area, about 15 minutes by tram from the central railway station (one change).

It is hard to recommend restaurants w/o knowing what sort of food/ambience you are looking for.

Close to the Marthahospiz there are dozens of very good (but a bit touristy and therefore slightly overpriced) restaurants. Another option is to go by tram/bus to the residential area Blasewitz/Loschwitz where the Blue Wonder bridge crosses the river. Excellent restaurants there with beer gardens by the river, italian food (Villa Marie, reservation recommended), Schillergarten and Körnergarten local food.

There is so much to do in Dresden ... with only one night you should concentrate on the Old Town with Zwinger Palace, Semper Opera house, Frauenkirche, cathedral, maybe visit one museum (I recommend either Green Vault Jewellery collection or Picture Gallery Old Masters).

Heidelberg has some wonderful hotels. The Marriott Heidelberg is close to the train station and specials can be found, and a 10 minute walk to the old town. The breakfast is great here. Air conditioned. We have stayed here twice and will again this year.

The Holiday Inn has a great location, nice rooms, airconditioning and specials are available on line. Breakfast is ok, location is great. Stayed here twice, prefer the Marriott.

The Hollander HOf is a wonderful old hotel, with NO airconditioning, in the old town, but can be expensive. Specials can be found on their web site or thru the city. Stayed here once. It is on the river next to the old bridge.
