hotels in Dresden

We will be traveling with our adult daughter in November. What area would you recommend we stay in Dresden, we will probably have a car. Any recommendations for lodging would also be appreciated. Not sure of price point yet but we are always interested in good location and clean, it does not need to be luxury. Thanks,

We stayed at Aparthotels an der Frauenkirche (there are 4 buildings under the auspices of the same hotel, but we stayed at the Muenzgasse location). Good standard of accommodation, very central to the attractions and the tourist area, reasonable price. Quite a walk if you are looking for the shopping district.

Mm, there is parking there but you would pay through the nose to park. Plus I don't think you'd need a car in Dresden itself. Perhaps you could drop off the car to the rental office when you get there and pick up afterwards?

A car is a nuisance in Dresden (as in any bigger city). You'll always have to pay for parking in the city centre - not as much as in many other countries, but still ...

If you're visiting pre-Christmas market season then it's still low season and you might get excellent deals at the centrally located 4 or 5star hotels. If during Christmas market season then you better hurry to get anything decent at all.

The Aparthotels that lavandula stayed at opened another building next to the Neumarkt square recently. Good value for money IMO.

Another quite central option: www.pension-zwinger.de
There is basically no hotel in the old town that I would NOT recommend - cleanliness is a given, it really depends on the price range and the style of accommodation that you prefer.

More 'authentic' is Martha Hospiz, in a nice area in the Neustadt district. If you don't mind staying in a nice residential area, about 10-15 minutes by tram from the old town, then there are endless options. To name a few:

Or, for a list of B&Bs and apartments, have a look at this website:

Thanks for your suggestions. I just got a good price from HOtel Kipping and reviews are good. About how far of a walk from the tourist sites is it?

It's a minute south of the main railway station, from there it's a 15 minutes walk to the Altmarkt square and the old town. Or hop on a tram which takes about 5 minutes to the old town.

The Hilton has a very good location, very near the Frauenkirche. I enjoyed my short stay there.

I like the location of the Hilton for its proximity to the Frauenkirche and other historical buildings, but I don't really like the location for when I need to use public transportation.

For that I prefer to be closer to the Altmarkt. The NH Altmarkt is usually a good price. Ingo will warn you of the church bells next door, but in the 2 times I've stayed there I've not had a problem.

At both the NH and Hilton you have to pay to stay in the garage.

Another place I've stayed is the Ibis - there are several of them all in a row on the pedestrian mall in the direction of the train station. This location is also pretty good - close enough to easily walk to the sights, and close to trams and the train station. There is open lot parking behind the hotel - you have to pay but it's a lot less than using the garages.
