Hotels in Cortina D'Ampezzo

Our family plans on spending a few days next ski season in Cortina. Any feedback on Cortina in general and hotel recommendations in particular would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bob:

You are all over the place!! First yoou wanted information on Austria. I gave you Lech and Kitzbuhel, now you need Cortina. You are either a travel agent getting Fodors info or you are like me love Europe for skiing so much that you can not make up your mind! Which is it!
JOHN

John:

You're on to me John. Actually the Griswald's (Clausses) are thinking of doing a one week Kitzbuhel/Cortina combo trip. I'm trying to get some information on both locations. Both seem to offer great skiing for myself and my boys and apres ski activities for Mrs. Clauss. Thanks.

Hey Bob! Skied Cortina a few years ago and loved it! Don't have to time rave on here now. Do a search under "Cortina" & you'll find my comments.

Buon viaggio!

3 years ago we were in Corvara, Italy and stayed at La Perla. The hotel, views, hospitality and food was fantastic. This location is not far from Cortina D'Ampezzo but a smaller more charming town.

Ok Bob:

I forgive you! Sounds like a wonderful trip! Could you adopt me?? I have been to Kitzbuhel twice. Beautiful area! Town is what you would want in a tirolean ski area! The skiing is fantastic except for....low altitude. Snow could be hard to come by...but when it does, there is no better ski experience. I stayed just outside in Hechenmoos (large hotel but too far from town) Tried to get to Cortina last year but could not convince anyone to go from my group! I look for your report on what you decide! PS: Lech is still a great spot to consider especially when you add in the area's of Zurs, St. Christof and the very entertaining St. Anton!
JOHN

Just got back from a summer trip up to Cortina, stayed in Hotel Cortina downtown. Great 4-star hotel, friendly staff, small rooms but clean and comfortable. Great location in the middle of everything, only it's right across the road from the campanile! 0700...every 15 minutes...loud bells!
White water rafting up there was great...
Ciao
