Hotels in Copenhagen?
 

I am travelling to Copenhagen in July and am looking for a decent, economical hotel. Since I am there for only two days, I'd like to stay in the city center. Any suggestions?

I actually need advice on must-do's in Copenhagen for my two days there!!

I'm afraid I can't help with the hotel, because I don't know of anyplace that qualifies as "economical". If your visit is over a weekend, you might pick up a weekend special. Hopefully someone else has some recommendations for you.

As for must do's---stroll up the Stroget, the long pedestrian street. Visit the Round Tower. At the end of the Stroget, cross a plaza to the Nyhaven, and walk along the canal, admiring the old ships and distinctive buildings along there. Buy a waffle cone if it's hot and you are hungry. Continue on to the Resistance Museum, spend an hour or two there, and see the dramatic fountain nearby whose name escapes me. Continue along the water to the Little Mermaid and wonder why it's so popular. You can return by picking up one of the free bikes or, if you're still game for walking, cross through the old fortifications and find your way across to the Botanical Gardens and Rosenborg Castle. After a brief rest at your room, visit Tivoli in the evening and have dinner there.

If you have time on your second day, catch a train to Roskilde (30 minutes away) and visit the Viking Ship Museum.

I second the Cab-In. We stayed at the Cab-In in Arhus and liked it very much, especially considering the prices for other places were through the roof. We happened on the Cab-In by chance, and since we already had reservations at the DanHostel, we stayed there when we went to Copenhagen.

In Copenhagen, the outrageous hotel prices made us decide on a hostel, the Danhostel. It was a decent, very modern, clean, very lively hostel, full of young people from all over--including Iceland. There were two of us in a four-bed room, with two of the beds folded up against the wall. No other furniture except for a little table and a chair against the wall.

I believe it cost us a little over $100 a day.

You may want to try Scandic chain--I believe they used to be ex-Hilton, and should have hotels throughout scandinavian countries. Mostly 3.5-4stars.

I have seen some reasonable prices for the out-of-town Scandic hotels near Copenhagen on www.hotels.de .

The Cab Inn is usually at least 720 DKK (about $130 USD) per night, without breakfast. So given the price of food in Copenhagen, you might be equally well off with a 900 DKK hotel that does have breakfast.

Several years ago, I got a great deal through Priceline for a very centrally located hotel. But that hotel has since changed hands. The most common option to get on Priceline is the Marriott, which is a bit out of the center, so I am not sure I would recommend this.

For our upcoming August stay, we got a good deal on the Best Western Hebron, because they have a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal - so 660 DKK per night with breakfast included. Check the Best Western web site in case there are specials during your stay.

If you want a budget hotel without a private bathroom, these are the options near the train station:
Selandia, Saga, Nebo, Absalon Annex, Absalon, and Loeven

Take a look at different booking sites - the same hotel can have a dramatically different price on different sites. Also try these two sites:

For the time of our August stay, the Danhostel City would have been more expensive for a private room than the other options I found. The other thing I didn't like is recent reviews which raise a fire hazard concern because of locked stairwells. I'd suggest contacting the hostel and see what the policy is on that.
