Hotels in Budapest

We are going on an AMA Danube riverboat cruise in July, beginning in Budapest. We are seeking a good hotel, in terms of location and comfort, in Budapest.

Has anyone stayed in Hotel Palazzo Zichy Budapest, or Boutique Hotel Zara? If so, please tell us about your experience. Thank you very much in advance for your advice.

Also, we would welcome any additional hotel recommendations and reasons. Thanks so much.

I have friends in Budapest that have a very well-reviewed guest house. Bob has been a friend since we both lived in the Bay Area in ancient times. If you think you'd like to stay in a more intimate environment than a big hotel I can recommend it wholeheartedly and the prices are shockingly good:

Full service Marriott on the Danube overlooking Buda. All rooms have river view. Greg view of cast.e and Chain Bridge ,etc.

Try Priceline.com for bet prices... Others here have reported getting it for under $75/night. Do a search on Fodors.

We stayed there a few years ago and really liked it. The hosts speak fluent English and were very helpful.

We are staying at Pallazzo Zichy in January - I will post a report on our return.

I suspect the reason you are not getting comments on Hotel Palazzo Zichy is because it is well outside the usual area for foreign visitors. It is not in a neighbourhood that I would choose, absent some compelling reason.

Why are you going on about the Hotel Palazzo Zichy? You want a good location and that hotel does not qualify.

It's a full kilometer from the river, far south of Deak Ter, and a long way from Liszt Ter (good night spot). It is also NOT close to Dohany Utca, Andrassy, the Parliament, St. Iztvan's, the Castle or City Park.

Seriously, look elsewhere if your desire for "a good hotel, in terms of location" means anything.

P.S., the Zara's location is only marginally better.

Several years ago we stayed at the Hotel Gellert, located right on the Danube at the foot of Gellert Hill. It has wonderful pools and s[a.
