hotels in Bucharest

Looking for a hotel near the cruise port in Bucharest. Or do you know how far it is from city center to port? How much would a cab cost? Any information will be helpful. Thanks.

The port for cruise ships is Constant(s)a on the Black Sea, a distance of 150 kms. River Danube boats can stop at Ruse, Bulgaria, cross river from Giorgiu, Romania, about 70 kms from Buchares(h)t. Taxi could be very expensive.

I can recommend The Hotel Opera in downtown Buchares(h)t as a comfortable, good looking lodging, with elevator and buffet breakfast.

There's a reasonable, if agonisingly slow, train service between Constanta and Bucharest, averaging 4-5 hours (www.bahn.de. The English-language version doesn't always recognise the English for some towns, and insists on calling Bucharest Bucuresti, though the German version DOES accept the German for all towns).

The only real alternative is taxis, and you still need to allow about 3 hours for the journey.

The distance between Bucharest and Constanta is 225 Km. Look at http://www.mersultrenurilor.ro/
Select English version.
Enter the names as Bucuresti Nord and Constanta
Do not select P train (it is slow and full). Look at R (rapid trains) , IC or A.

Buy ticket for the first class. It is not like in other European countries, here is a big difference between first and second class (regarding how clean and full the train is). The tickets are cheap, so please buy first class.

As it's probably clear from the answers above, Bucharest doesn't have a port. The nearest ports where river cruises dock are Giurgiu and Oltenita; both these towns are about 65 km/40 mi south of Bucharest. A taxi should cost €30-40 ($45-55), but you'll likely be overcharged.

Public transport is a lot more convenient: frequent buses link them with Bucharest (departing every 30 minutes from Oltenita and even more often from Giurgiu). The trip takes about one hour and half, tickets cost about €3/$4.

Buses from Giurgiu stop in Bucharest around Eroii Revolutiei square (10-20 minutes to city center, costs €2/$3 by taxi or €0.8/$1 by subway).

Buses from Oltenita stop near Sudului square (15-30 minutes to city center, €3/$4 by taxi or €0.8/$1 by subway).

Valtor...you're right...225 kms from Buch to Const..I have several Romanian maps and I didn't read one of them properly just showing 150kms...and leaving off the last leg.
Still don't know if the OP is coming in by river cruise or Black Sea cruise.I wish OP's would include the facts...they would be easier to help.

Valtor..from other posts I recall that you are interested in Romania. Are you Romanian? If so, I've been traveling Romania for several decades, periodically, and I would be happy to share some pics taken throughout the country.

Tower, I am born in Romania and I leave it 25 years ago, going to Israel, where I live now. I still go to Romania once per year, 7 - 10 days; my mother and sister are there. When I go there I do not have time to make many trips, I prefer to stay with the family (in Ploiesti and Bucharest).

Thank you, Valtor. Write if you wish. I have scanned pics of he 70's and 80's as well as the 2000's. Shalom.

A great alternative is renting a fully serviced 4 star apartment in the heart of Bucharest.

See http://www.aparthomes.ro for more details.

Bucharest was so close to have a port in the town of "1 Decembrie", close to Magurele :) It is finalized 70% http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canalul...Bucure%C8%99ti

Charles has a good point though, find a serviced apartment in the city center. I recommend Alia Accommodation: http://www.in-bucharest.com
