hotels in bergen

Can anyone recommend a great hotel in Bergen for our family of five? Thanks, Elyse

I can't really recommend a Great hotel, but we stayed in one of the Novotel chain hotels near the dock and it was very well located, the people at the front desk were extremely helpful. We had a "quad" for four.

Few years ago, I stayed at Britol Hotel, centrely located, nice and clean room, very good buffet breakfast. Please check:www.rainbow-hotels.no.

I actually think it was an SAS Radisson; it was right in Bryggen. Couldn't have been better located. We had a quad room; don't know what they have for five. Be sure to take the kids to Pepe's Pizza.

there are two sas radisons, one is centrally located and one near the dock. is the dock a better location?

Ours was the Radisson SAS Royal, telephone number 47-555-430-00. It was right next to the Bryggens Museum. Very close to the dock/fish market. Very close to the Floibanen, the funicular to Mount Floyen. I love Edvard Grieg's music so I took a bus to see Troldhaugen. Great restaurants and shops all around the hotel. Hate to admit this but the kids didn't do too well with Scandinavian food and there was a MacDonald's nearby, too. Very helpful people at the front desk.

Maybe a pension would be an option?
They often come with comfortable family offers.
Try Skansen Pension. http://www.skansen-pensjonat.no/
I never stayed there myself, but in my efforts advicing the Fodorites, I have got very good feedbacks on that place. Locationwise I hardly can imagine any other better Bergen accomodations.
Happy travel!

Checking the rainbow hotels group -- I see that Bristol and Rosenkrantz are both part of this group. Is one location preferable to the other?

Checked tripadvisor and both look fine.

What about accessibility to the train station, etc.?

Thanks!

I stayed at the Steens Hotel when I was in Bergen, last September. It's a good uphill walk from the station, but it is quite lovely. The Hotel is actually a pension, so the prices were quite low. The rooms on the third (highest) floor were amazing. Breakfast was served in an absolutely beautiful dining room and was very good. The rooms also have a very nice park view. You should search for their website just to see the pictures. It is more of a unique experience hotel, than a standard hotel room hotel, which I thought added a lot to my vacation.
