hotels in Avignon

Help. I need some recommendations as to where to stay in Avignon. I will be there in July. My wife and I are interested in something charming and romantic, perhaps with a pool, a place to dine and not terribly expensive. Any ideas?

Auberge de Cassagne in Le Ponte, just outside Avignon. Beautiful. Yes to pool and romantic, plus big rooms and baths and fluffy robes. Room wasn't expensive when we were there in Feb. but restaurant was.

jack, can you tell me what kind of room you actually stayed in? I am trying to pick between a couple of choices...thanks.

Auberge de Cassagne is a good suggestion. I would suggest deciding quickly and making a reservation though - the International Theatre Festival is held in Avignon the whole month of July and everything will be booked. The entire town becomes packed to capacity.

PB

I would stay right across the Rhone in Villeneuve_les_Avignon. Prieure and la Magnaneraie are luxurious hotels with pool, gardens and michelin star restaurants. They also have rooms in a wide variety of price ranges. Atmospheric and near the action.
