Hotels in Athens for under 150 euros
Thanks to all for all your suggestion regarding our honeymoon trip. We have in fact decided to add a second day in Athens. We will now stay in Athens 1/4 and 2/4 before flying back on 3/4/08. Would like to be close to Plaka and Stigmata (I hope i pronounced it right) square. We were really interested in Hera hotel but it is very pricey @ 170 euros for a room with view of the Acropolis (or is it?). We would like it to be clean and confortable and pleasant enough (since it IS my last honeymoon, LOL). I see a lot of comments on Attalos, not really sure about its rates. I was looking into Phillipos but the room with queen beds are interior and have no view!
Any suggestions? Much appreciated, fodorites!!! |
It's "Syntagma," not "Stigmata!" Thanks for the laugh!
There are several budget hotels within easy walking distance to Syntagma and the Plaka. Check the Attalos Hotel, Cecil Hotel, Magna Grecia Hotel, Acropolis View Hotel, Pan Hotel, Arethusa Hotel, Amazon Hotel and the Metropolis Hotel. |
We stayed at Adrian Hotel in the Plaka, right near the Roman forum. Our room had a lovely view of the Acropolis. We booked through Uli at Dolphin-Hellas and our rate was less than your budget by about 20€ (we stayed there May 2006).

We're booked at the Attalos Hotel in June for 94 Euros per night.

Few Greek Hotels except the "americanized" ones (i.e., over 150 Euros) have Queen-size beds. In fact, on most Greek hotel websites the term for double bed is "matrimonial bed" -- the Greeks feel if you're matrimonial, you should snuggle up a bit!

Is it true that you can obtain better rates on hotels if you book through a local travel agency?
If so, any particular recommendations/websites would be hugely appreciated, thanks!!! |
We used Uli at Dolphin-Hellas agency. She is highly recommended on this website, as several other Fodorites have used her and have been pleased.

We liked the Athens Cypria very much, and I think they're 116 Euro for your dates. Ask for a room on the 6th floor with a view of the Acropolis.

Has anyone out there stayed at the Hera Hotel in Athens? If so, what did you think? Also, how was the rooftop restaurant?
I was going to stay at the AVA but I think 255 euros is too expensive. Thanks. |
We've stayed at the Acropolis View Hotel a couple of times, and whereas it is not luxurious, it is clean, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It's a short walk from Plaka. Should be under 150 euro, I imagine.
