Hotels in Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich and Zurich?
I'm travelling to Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich and Zurich in May -- can anyone recommend affordable but clean hotels? Also, does anyone have an opinion about the Hotel Prinsenhof in Amsterdam?
Thanks!

For Prague and maybe Berlin, try nethotels.com; also for Prague try www.avetravel.cz We stayed at Penzion Balbin near the Muzeum Metro & Wenceslas Square. It is 5-10 minute walk to just about anywhere; has shower & toilet in clean room, helpful English-speaking staff & good buffet breakfast. It is on the top floors of an apartment building with elevator & locked doors to outside so safe. We paid about $35/2 in November 1997, but understand it is about $80/2 during high season.

Trying to book Amsterdam for March already was difficult, so you really need to 'get on the stick,' as my German teacher used to say. It is NOT a cheap city. I guess there are hostels, and there are some delightful looking B&B's, which may still be above your "affordable but clean" budget. But do get clicking, or you'll find yourself shut-out.

I can recommend Hotel-Pension Alexandra in Berlin. I stayed there last spring and liked it very much. The location (Wielandstr. 32, just off the Kurfurstendamm) is extremely convenient, and there's a nice breakfast buffet every morning. My single room (bath down the hall) was tiny, but very clean. There was a telephone, cable TV, and a clock radio. I paid less than $40/night.
I can provide more info if you want to e-mail me.

The Pension Seibel in Munich is located a block from the Viktualienmarkt and near the Marienplatz, the included breakfast was excellent. I am staying there again this fall.

In Amsterdam I stayed at the Owl Hotel, the rooms were a little worn, but the location was decent a few blocks from the Leidesplein and overlooking Vondelpark.

In Prague I stayed at Pension Unitas, basic accommodations with bathroom down the hall.
