Hotels in Amsterdam

Debating between Blakes, Pulitzer, and 717. Any comments?
Thanks~

Pulitzer is nice but sometimes get mixed reviews because it may not be worth the price. 717 is one of the great hotels in A'dam and serves up one of the most unique hotel experiences in northern Europe. Check tripadvisor.com for more reviews.

Blakes is a beautiful design hotel in a converted canal house, with great restaurant. Pulitzer is also in converted canal houses, but more classically decorated. I've stayed in Pulitzer several times. Blakes would definitely be more special, more expensive too. I haven't been to 717.

I would say 717 or Blakes. Their styles are quite different . . . what kind of mood will you be in during your trip? That would be the deciding factor . . .

I'd nuke the Pulitzer because of inefficient service I got there once (and I was with Dutch-speakers!) You expect offhandedness in A'dam, but not at those prices. The P feels like an anonymous world hotel that could be anywhere. The others have a definite vibe.

Or, may I suggest if you're spending $$$$$ anyway, why not just rent an amazing canal-side apartment and have better privacy & views? There are lots of online agencies. Those websites make me drool !

We rented an apt. in the oldest part of the city through citymundo.com. The upside: we were central to everything. The downside: it was hot, slept with windows open (no a/c) and got drunk/high people walking under us all night heading to and from the red-light district. My advice would be to stay in a quieter district like the Jordaan. The best way to see the city if from the canals, IMHO.

Can't tell from the original post if you know Amsterdam or not.

As mentioned above I'd pick my hotel for location within the city as a first priority. I *much* preferred Leidseplein, around Vondelpark, or the Jordaan over the grim & gray Central district by the Dam, train station and RLD.

I am not familiar with Amsterdam. Are Blake's or 717 near the areas you prefer??
THANKS!

Blakes is Keizersgracht 384. It's on one of the main canals, very good area. Amsterdam is not that big, you can easily walk to anywhere from there.

OK, we cannot switch Blake's to a one night stay. Anyone familiar with Hilton Amsterdam??
THANKS!
