Hotels in Amsterdam
 

Husband and I will be in Amsterdam Oct. 2 -3. Trying to locate good hotel. Moneywise, between $100. - $150. USD. We prefer to use hotels that we've heard good reviews of. We would also like to stay close to the center of town, but we'll have a rental car, so going out side of the center is okay too. Maybe a nice Bed & Breakfast. Any ideas would be appreciated- Thanks- Connie

Stayed for a week in mid July, Canal House, located in Jordaan, its 17th century neat-clean, great breakfast. 2 blocks from the Ann Frank House, their rates run from 120 per. check they out, you won't go wrong.

Connie, check out the rants and raves section, we love the Hotel Washington (around $100) in the Museumplein district, close. I think that parking will be a problem tho, as it will be anywhere.

I've heard positive things on this line about the Brouwer Hotel.

My favorite is the Ambassade<BR><BR> Estherea is also nice<BR><BR> Pulitzer too. These 3 are all canal house hotels and should be in your price range. And I hear only good things about Canal House. <BR><BR> I really think it is a mistake to think of driving in Amsterdam, nobody does it. Park it while you're there and get around by bike, tram, bus, train, taxi,or foot.<BR><BR> These hotels are all central and all universally praised.<BR><BR> Also the Tulip Inns are fine, more modern, with elevators etc. but still Dutch in character. The one near the Spui is nice and well located, and I like the one near the Tropen Museum, it's outside the absolute center but near that museum and the Zoo, and easy public transport to whatever you want to see.<BR><BR> I'd avoid anything anywhere near Dam Square, it's basically crummy.

I think that the Pulitzer is way out of the price range indicated by Connie. Unlees you thought she meant $150 per person, insteaod $150 per room. and it might even be more than $150 per person.<BR><BR>I have stayed there, and it was great. One of the best lunches I ever had in all of Europe... and sadly alone (on business). I remember it as if it were yesterday.. and it was at least 7 or 8 yrs ago.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

My wife and I stayed at the Arrentea bed and breakfast in a suburban area of Amsterdam. We had a room on their second floor with facilities and breakfast. We had to take a bus into the city, but it was nice being in the quiet in the evening and night. They also met us at the train station and drove us to their house when we arrived and took us to the train when we left to go to the airport. They were very friendly and helpful. Have you checked Owl Hotel? It's reasonable and located near Vongelpark.

<BR>I second what Bob said about the Hotel Brouwer. I've been there and it was great in every way, including being centrally located, but not so much so that it was noisy; in fact, I found it very peaceful there. It cost 80 Euros for a very good double in April. Book now, though, as it fills up fast. <BR><BR>It is situated near the top of the Singel canal. It is worth trying to secure a room with a canal view. The view is gorgeous, particularly at night.
