Any recommendations for hotels in Aix?

For what price, in Euros? How many people/rooms?

We stayed here a couple of years ago - very conveniently located, our room overlooked the garden, nice people and comfortable room.

several years back, we enjoyed a comfortable stay during a freak snowstorm, at this central gem..very reasonable then, probably around $125 now..very cozy, good breakfasts, two block walk to the Cours...lovely 4 Dolphin Square with fountain. Parking garage a block away. "Year in Provence" author Peter Mayle names Gu's restaurant only 2 blocks away...great lunch menu. We have stayed at the Quatre Dauphins several times. It is in a great location and was very charming but does not have elevators. All other mod cons, though.

We have also stayed at the Roi Rene, a couple further out, largish, seemingly a higher end business hotel equivalent to a JW Marriott (and equally lacking in soul).

We haven't been to Aix for too many years, but we wanted to stay at the Hotel Cardinale, around the corner from the Quatre Dauphins based on reviews then. Has anyone stayed there recently?

No, but I stayed there many years ago and really liked it a lot (FYI, it is the Cardinal, no e on the end, it is an adjective in this sense and hotel is masculine so no e on the end of the word; the street name is Cardinale because the word rue is feminine). I liked it because it was "quaint" and not typical modern, yet still comfortable. The people there were nice, also, and it's a good location.

I really like Mas d'Entremont and have stayed there more recently, but it is just outside the city, not in the center. That worked for me as I had a car and used it as a base, only went into center of Aix once or twice.

Villa Gallici, never stayed there too expensive for me

hey cig//how you doing...Syd and Dariel had a little girl three weeks ago so I'm a great grandfather...we live 5 minutes apart. Son and three grandsons including papa Syd put on a raucous Memorial Day show at two different Ventura venues...really rocked...im getting hearing aids from VA tomorrow

Thanks, Christina. I just thought it was named after the street and reproduced its "gender". Always trying to improve my French, which isn't very grammatical!

Years ago we spent a week at the Hotel des Augustins right on the Cours. (We were there when Princess Diana died). It was a great hotel that offered parking in an easy access lot a couple blocks away. But they had only bathtubs with hand held showers, no actual showers. So last summer we opted for the Grand Hotel Roi instead. It was a super hotel! Loved the rooms, loved the staff, loved the breakfasts. At first we thought it would be too "out of the way", but it's only a couple minute walk to the center, and their garage was below the hotel -- all very convenient. Join the free "club" on booking and you'll get some good bonus savings.


Our splurge hotel in Provence was at Bastide des Gordes for two nights -- now that was exceptional (with a bonus of booking while they were closed down for renovation, months ahead of our stay at half price).
