Hotels for Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris

We are 2 couples planning a trip to Germany and France. We are getting ready to make some flights and reservations. The best flight is a non stop one into Tegal Airport, in Berlin. Is that a problem? This flight landed Berlin at in 8 am. We are planning on staying two days in Berlin and taking a train to Amsterdam for two more days and then to Paris by train for 4 days. We would like suggestions for 3-4 star hotels that are convenient for the major tourist sites as well as train stations. Mostly we want something clean and in a safe area. Any great local restaurants would also be a nice treat. We are looking into mid May.

Berlin and even more so Paris are quite spread out and there are sights spread out all over the city. Staying near a train station (and which one in Paris - there are several) is not really a benefit. Staying near a Metro is much more convenient.

For specific recos it would help to know when you will be there and the euro budget per room - assuming one room per couple.

Well, it's convenient then that all of the major train stations in Berlin, France and Amsterdam are integrated with Metro stations or have several within a couple of hundred meters.

In Berlin, the trains to Amsterdam leave from the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). You could stay around that station but might find the are of Mitte, where the most concentrated collection of historical sites is located a better option. Anything around the Friedrichstrasse train station would be a good choice as it is only 1 stop from the Hauptbahnhof.

You will arrive in Amsterdam's Centraal station (the main station), and the city fans out from that location with the canals forming a concentric "U" shapes around the station area. The Metro is not the best way to get around Amsterdam as the lines in the central area are limited. Trams are a better option even though Centraal station has an metro stop within it.

All the trains from Amsterdam to Paris will arrive at Pris Nord (North) station, which has a Metro station in it

I suggest that you use a site like booking.com , hotels.com , or venere.com to search for 3-4 star hotels in the area of the train stations you will be using. They will all show hotels by are on a map.

We've stayed at the Hotel Aalders in Amsterdam and loved it. It's very close to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum, and also about 100 meters from a tram line.

Sorry - meant Paris, not France

Just go to Booking.com Reviews by customers, pick your own price as star ratings are different in each country. You can also search my map.

We recently stayed at the Adina Hackescher Markt in Berlin and liked it very much. Great location and clean spacious rooms.

Melia in Berlin is perfect location IMO
Across the street from the train station, minutes to Metro, most attractions in the walking distance.
Hotels in Berlin ( four star) are less expensive than Paris or Amsterdam.
In Amsterdam, I stayed at lovely 4star Estherea (it might be outside your budget.)

We stayed at the Hotel Fita in Amsterdamn on our last visit in 2011. It is not fancy but the rooms are great, clean and the owner is there each day. It is an easy walk to the Van Gogh Museum. We were with another couple and all of us agreed we would use this hotel again.

My wife and I rented an apartment in Paris in 2012. She found it by emailing [email protected]. The place was very close to the Louvre and gave us a good feel about being in Paris with the locals instead of just another large hotel that could be in America. We saw the photos of the place online prior to renting and it was exactly as described. I am sure they would have some that would accomodate two couples.
