Hotels by Buckingham Palace
When searching for a place to stay, what area of London would be central to Buckingham Palace? Is that close to Harrods?
|
Harrods is in Knightsbridge - Brompton Rd. Look up hotels in that area on a website.
Buckingham Palace is on the otherside of Greenpark and I suppose you could call it close to Harrods (as the crow flies) but quite a walk. The Picadilly Line connects the two (knightsbride & Greenpark stations) so get out your tube map and you will see what I mean. |
Why do you want to stay "central to Buckingham Palace"?
You're far better to base yourself in Mayfair as that is central to everything. Also, what is your budget? |
I highly recommend staying at Luna & Simone. It is close to the Victoria and Pimlico Tube stations. This way, you can walk to the stations and go wherever you want to. I also recommend getting a visitors travelcard pass. That way you don't have to worry about buying a ticket every time you want to get on the Tube or bus.

How about The Reubens At the palace. It is across the street fron Buckingham Palace. But, alas it is not close to harrods.

I second the Rubens at the Palace. American
Airlines Vacations had great rates. |
Th Hilton Park Lane (Mayfair) is very central. We stayed there & on the day we arrived we wandered across Green Park in time to see the Queen, Prince Phillip, & Charles in carriages with Russia's Putin on a state visit. We were delighted at this unexpected event.
Harrod's is a 20 minute easy walk btw. Hilton Honors points made it a really cheap vacation. |
Jolly Hotel St Ermin's is quite close to Buckingham Palace also.
|
Is there some particular reason to stay close to Buckingham Palace? Dinner with the Roayls?
Otherwise why not settle for the center of London - near a bunch of stuff? And - you don't mention your budget (for enough you micht be able tostay in the Palace itself!) |
Consider the Gorihng, an elegant hotel that was the first in London to have private baths in every room.
|
A second vote for the Goring... it's pricey, but oh soooo nice. Located on Beeston Place. Lovely!

You have had good advice on four str hotels in the area. If you ask me I can post about ten A4 pages-worth of notes by Fodors forum contributors on two star hotels on or near Ebury Street. I am [email protected].
Welcome to London Ben Haines PS: I make the same offer to others |
Wow! Thanks to all. My husband & I, kids ages 17,14,12 will be in London for two days. I'm not even sure what the "must sees" are. I just thought Buckingham Palace was a good place to start. I'm open to all fantastic ideas and we can go non-stop!

One more thought: Prefer an above average place. Don't need the Ritz.
|
The Crowne Plaza St James (formerly a Taj hotel) is splendid, and in Buckingham Gtae it's close enough to Mrs. Q's place that you can hear the royals flushing the... oh never mind.

The Goring is definitely above average, and some of the rooms are as large as a suite. Ask. The hotel is a fine place for afternoon tea, too.
