Hotels - Brugge/Brussels
I just returned from a wonderful trip to Belgium and wanted to offer a couple of hotel recommendations: 1)in Brugge --- the Hansa Hotel. 3900BF for a single. Pretty, quiet room with all the amenities, Belgian chocolates and a goodnight note on the nightstand, a note re: the weather report each morning, and the most lovely and accommodating owners. A 2 minute (or less) walk to the Markt (main square). Also, a great buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. 2) in Brussels --- the Hotel Mozart. Cozy, charming room - 2500BF for a single, breakfast included - in a great location - 1 block from Grand Place. They have recently expanded - the new extension should be open by now with a much grander lobby, an elevator and some new rooms. The day staff was very pleasant (the night man I encountered wasn't very helpful or enthusiastic)and the location can't be beat. Only a couple of blocks away from the central train station (very walkable if you don't have heavy luggage. I highly recommend both of these hotels --- and can't wait to return. I found the Belgians to be especially warm and hospitable!

Greetings -

I'm just putting my 2 cents worth on Hotel Mozart. We also stayed there last September and it was very charming. As said above, it is very close to Grand Place and not far from the train station. We would stay there again.

:-)

We too just returned from Brugge and Paris. At Wes Fowler's suggestion here on the forum, we booked the wonderful Hotel Ter Duinen, Langerei 52, b-8000 Brugge. Telephone is (050) 33.04.37 and fax is (050) 34.42.16. They have a home page: http://uc2.unicall.be/terduinen. Please check it out. what you get is exactly what you see there. The rooms are large and the bathroom is roomy. E-mail is [email protected] is how we booked the room (along with a credit card which I faxed).

The owners are Marc & Lieve Bossu-Van Den Heuvel who both speak beautiful english. The rate for our large canal-front room was 4500bf. (about $120) and included a nice breakfast. You cannot believe the sight every morning looking across at the still-inhabited homes directly across from canal from the Hotel. Women still sweep sidewalks and clean windows every day. This hotel combined the old setting with close proximity to the hub-bub of the town. It was perfect. Easy walking distance to town where the sights are exactly as expected (which walked once or twice every day) and is directly on several bus lines if needed (we took it to the train station when we went to the Belgium Coast for a Sunday). If you do a SEARCH on this site, you will get many other responses about this hotel. I cannot say enough about its location (directly on the canal, Wow!). Almost breathtaking to spend early mornings and late evenings just looking out over yesterday. Sorry to pontificate and ramble. I loved it!
